Relatively rarely, but in some performance sensitive use cases. Mine happens to be fuzzers, where a very cheap fork-like primitive would be a really big win.

There are a lot of slightly different fork-exec-like things in the concept space and it's hard to imagine one approach satisfying them all. IMO it would be interesting to take an approach analogous-ish to sched_ext_ops where you built the rough flow chart of a combined fork-exec, but with hooks built to enable ebpf to change behavior or skip the bits these sophisticated users don't want/need.

As someone who has tried to make several businesses around art, people generally like art but not enough to pay "at scale" money for it.

SpaceX supposedly mostly runs non-rad-hard parts, the ostensible reason being because its more cost effective to double or triple up than buy specialty equipment. Do you have a source for this?

Anecdotally, a lot more people in the US tow. And pickup trucks are the indisputable king of towing.
There's also the fact that it's a lot harder to take the top off a van than it is to add a top to the bed of a pickup. If I sometimes moved manure and had a van... I'd probably rent a trailer.
The biggest thing I learned from PE was that neither elegant theory nor brute force had a monopoly on successful optimization strategies. It's been something I've carried with me ever since and has over and over again proven its value.

I think there's something to what the author says about the shift from mission-driven startups to naked greed, but I don't think I would have put it that way.
Over the last two decades the startup scene has gone from trying to improve nearly everybody's lives at very low cost to consumers (ad-supported services like maps and email) to trying to improve the lives of the upper middle class with debatable impacts on everyone else (gig economy stuff) to something whose most obvious application is destroying jobs (ai).
That's a pretty quick shift from utopian to dystopian rhetoric, and people who bought the line are right to find that jarring.

Ignoring the partisanship this argument doesn't make sense on its face: government jobs pay extremely poorly. You might say "well what if you hold more than one of them?", but you can't do that: a federal employee can be employed in two different roles, but their pay is capped at 40 hours a week across the federal government.
Anyone keen on that level of grift has vastly better options in the private sector.

I always offer companies pushing equity hard to trade for cash at 10% of the highest number they try to get me to value it at. Nobody has ever taken me up on it, even when they really should have.
