I am not sure why anyone would want to accept Bitcoin via Stripe

Same can be accomplished with Bitpay, who take 0% in fees with a 30$/month package (1% otherwise), they also pay into the bank the next business day unlike Stripe. And they are also alot more open as to the types of businesses they accept.

Or hell one could directly accept bitcoin with bitcoind running locally or using the blockchain.info api and then converting bitcoins with Bitstamp (or just using the bitcoins to buy things, every day more and more places accept them!)

It is great seeing Stripe actually embracing new technologies but imho their current bitcoin "offering" is not great and they are picky as to who they do business with.

edit: ah typical HN fanboyism, vote down anything negative said about Stripe instead of addressing the points raised.

The whole series is worth watching

Right now TV is in its "golden age" but there are no good sci-fi tv shows (hell even the word "scifi" is dirty somehow now, see > SyFy-lis).

Star Trek, Stargate, Battlestar Galactica, Outer Limits all gone replaced by Vampires and all sorts of supernatural rubbish.

Dr Who is the only interesting scifi show now worth watching, for the most part...

This anyone considering a "serious" long term business should avoid Paypal, they eventually screw every merchant one way or another, their history is littered with horror stories and business that have grown reliant on then and went under when their funds get eventually frozen over some automated stupidity and no customer support.

Google Domains 12 years ago

1. Can't pay with bitcoin so staying with namecheap

2. Google offers 0 support

3. Google rolls over to quickly to copyright requests, whats to stop them from pulling the domain from under you

No thanks

Ive been given a static ipv4 and a big ipv6 range from my isp, problem is despite getting the latest and best router http://www.asus.com/Networking/RTN66U/

I cant get ipv6 to work with this router, tho if i connect laptop directly to the wan cable i get an ipv6 address without issues and can use google via ipv6 etc

If a slightly unshaven geek like me cant get ipv6 to work easily what hope is there for rest of the world :(

"Just like sending funds to bank accounts, a transfer to a debit card costs 25¢ and will arrive in the card’s bank account in 1-2 business days. As always, you’ll need to verify your recipient’s identity.

While we can only support U.S. Visa and MasterCard debit cards at the moment, we’re actively working to bring our transfers API to our users in other countries."

.... uhm or just use bitcoin ...

It makes google sound almost Orwellian, which is not hard to believe considering how invasive their information gathering tentacles are and complete disregard for privacy of people.

A lot of websites could use ipv6 to connect to a proxy/security provider such as cloudflare which would output the site to ipv4/ipv6 end users with all the other bells and whistles that cloudflare offers.

The end user then doesnt even know or care that the website he/she is using is ipv6

btw does cloudflare support ipv6 only domains?

Heartbleed Update 12 years ago

Maybe Akamai and other large internet companies (Google, Facebook, Cloudflare etc) contribute now financially and/or with engineers towards openssl development or create an alternative.

This whole thing has been one giant clusterfuck, I myself seen one rather larger alexa top 1000 site being exploited by sessions being hijacked.

HHVM 3.0.0 12 years ago

So what IDE to guys at facebook use for HACK? My favourite editor PHP Storm doesn't support it, yet.

Thanks email sent, our service is actually not to dissimilar to tarsnap now that I think of it, anyways that was in the past. Thought I tell people my experiences.

I will stick with Bitpay, thank you very much. They are also actively researching and testing bitcoin stuff > http://bitcore.io/blog/articles/cosign-our-multisignature-wa...

I used Stripe for several months, but then they said my business is "too high a risk" for them, 7 years in business (longer than Stripe), hosting company in Ireland, very low charge-back rate, all customers more than happy, good support etc!

Since then opened a merchant account with Elavon after referal from our bank for credit cards and started using Bitpay for bitcoin, not only have lower fees (0% in case of Bitpay + 30$ a month for professional account), but also registered with Mastercard 3D Secure and Verified by Visa, which Stripe doesn't offer either.

Not really impressed, why would you want to put your marketplace at the whims of Stripe or credit card companies?

I am currently working on a bitcoin marketplace, while it would restrict the ease of use for users, it would also cut out alot of fraud and chargebacks crap

I would rather have a large part of a rapidly growing pie than fighting ebay or amazon on their turf

Those have all sorts of limits, basically anything above a few hundred euro a year and you are running afoul of EU AML laws, look at paypal for example to see what the limits are before you have to verify paypal accounts, its roughly the same for reloadable cards.

Frozen Funds 12 years ago

You obviously never had to deal with bureaucrats, right now the 2nd biggest exchange BTC-e is runny by some shady eastern europeans who are simply ignoring all laws. The biggest exchange Mtgox was run by an incompetent fool who lost half a billion in the cushion of his couch or something.

Bitstamp seem to be doing the right things but I doubt that they can legally operate in US or take transfers from/to US as they are doing.

Frozen Funds 12 years ago

The steep barriers to entry into becoming an exchange due to these laws/policies and the whole cloudy and non clear nature of what protocols to adhere in each country ensure that exchanges are not started by the most competent but by the most reckless and foolish, see magic the gathering.

There are several exchanges in the works but they are bogged down with regulation and not able to open.

Frozen Funds 12 years ago

The problem is the gateways between fiat and crypto, where centralisation occurs and due to AML/KYC policies and banking regulations all of the worst aspects of banking can affect users

bitcoin itself as the protocol/platform has proven to be quite solid

the trick is to not keep coins in exchanges unless you are into trading, but then you know that you are taking a risk

I doubt Gamestop accountants are too thrilled about having to do extra work, or potentially be accused of money laundering or running an unlicensed money transmitted business.

They can put an end to this overnight by having a simple TOC having to be signed on every preorder. In US you wouldn't want to break TOC...
