Yeah I agree, however its still worth pointing out. OP has been working for their own startup for 7 years and interned at google almost 10 years ago. It's basically using "ex-googler" for clicks.

I thought the "novice" programmer remark was a pretty cringe-worthy comment.

The original reasons listed by Deno for removing TS had the undertones of "senior engineer who hates certain tech because they didn't use it right". Naturally, their response was to say "you probably don't understand cause you're a novice".

I felt like the article and associated google doc were fishing for reasons to remove TS until ry finally mentioned "typescript provides an extra 500 lines and the namespaces make the code harder to reason with (V8 ingests these files directly)". IMO that was the only solid reason for the change.

I can emphasize with you, as a first hire is always a tough decision. Having bad first hires can set a company back, make it harder to hire others in the future and be bad for moral (which makes it that much more important).

What an employee does outside of work should not matter in your decision (tons of people have side gigs, for example).

What should matter is the expectations and the output of the employee. If you feel that its important to have someone working full-time, in the office 5 days a week, then I think that's perfectly OK (in the same way that its OK if an organization cannot handle remote teams). This is a decision you would be making. If you wanted 5 days a week, that would disqualify this candidate (at least for now).

IMO (and experience), the lack of commitment is the `three days a week` instead of full-time.

You replied a month ago saying that you downgraded the version and the issue was resolved, is that still not working for you?

EDIT: Fixed spelling of replied

In this situation, it is not OPs job to satisfy the mayor. It is this mayor's job to be a representative of the people so IMO the Mayor should have been able to handle hostility and criticism.

The mayors opportunity to partially ignore concerns shows their incompetence towards the issue.

UPDATE I wanted to mention that I totally agree with what you had said. I do not want to blame OP for being concerned and potentially angry

What does damore stating a fact that women being more predisposed to more social careers rather than engineering have anything to do with his stance on diversity?

This memo only helps this narrative of 'being predisposed' and that is the issue we are trying to get at.

From your last article: "Ladies, apparently, find the aggressively competitive nature of these subjects too “uninviting,” so they drop out." So many assumptions in those articles that I had to stop reading. Please look up logical fallacies.

I wont answer the Consider* part of what you said because it's a straw man argument and should be treated as such.

There are more male programmers than female NOW* but that wasn't the case 50 years ago.

Systematic discrimination has been proven as fact, with palpable examples (I shouldnt have to google this for you).

The 'genetic differences' that this memo quoted have been proven wrong by science... making it psuedo-science.

IMO don't apologize. OPs comment is meant to discredit you and is rude for someone WHO WORKS AT THE SAME COMPANY.

There is a larger issue where the use of "junior front end engineer" means "Don't take this persons opinion seriously".

Your are 1. an engineer 2. work at Facebook. There are far better ways to say "there are other opinions at our company too"

Your statement is factually right, however the only way someone can treat this statement is by assuming you are trying to refute the OPs republican claims. Since I can't downvote you, ill just include an explanation for others on why this comment holds no merit.

Ajit was appointed to the chair under Trump (Republican). Ajit was a recommendation from Republican minority lead (at the time) Mcconnell. Ajit has (to my knowledge) always been a republican member of US FCC.

I wanted to add that I think everyone's case is different. I had a tenure in Chicago and all of the apartment buildings I lived in were locked to a single ISP. This is very much so a YMMV.

I just wanted to chime in on this. IMO It will happen more often now, but .NET had/has a higher cost to entry (higher than say, ruby/py/java) which is the real reason why SV startups haven't been on board.

It is arguably also a bad business decision to shell out $$ for a language that isn't used at your company.

Until we take away our own biases, the "extra points" for under-represented minorities have to stay.

The example is: Your internal bias is already in effect before you even meet the people you are interviewing. You're only disgusted and aware of the explicit handicap example from your boss.

You do see that you are comparing 1. woman being biologically inferior to 2. sports affiliations.

For another example: It would be the same as saying Blacks are inferior to 2. political opinions.

That is NOT OK. It is not a question of being outraged, it is a question of a hostile workplace.

While I understand the sentiment... it DOES matter what gender they identify as. Uber's culture issues deal with sexism and harassment towards Women. You need a diverse group for the board and adding white males will not fix their issue.
