I've seen a couple of automated test frameworks. I'm not looking to test thou, I'm looking at way I can quickly automate my daily work. There's a healthy overlap between what test frameworks offer and what I want, so that's probably my best starting point.

Been using my ErgodoxEZ for the last 6 years. Fantastic keyboard, great ergonomics, rock solid build quality. Pricy but very worth imo.

If I were buying today, I'd buy a Moonlander, the newer version of the Ergodox.

I use the IdeaVIM plugin. I do "vib" (visual inside braces) to select everything within the parentheses. Added benefit of it works in lots of other places as well (terminal etc).

For Jetbrains IDEs, I've installed the IdeaVIM plugin and that's been a huge boost to productivity. I get the best of both worlds, the IDEs amazing tooling but also VIM's navigation which I find very intuitive.

I do that quite a bit, but I have pots which are 12 inches deep. I want to know when the bottom has dried out.

I agree that watering only when the soil is completely dry is best. It's really hard to tell when that is with large plants thou. I have a massive monstera and a mid sized ficus. I can't pick these up to check their weight. Why are there no smart plant meters? Something I push into the soil and sends me a notification when the soil has completely dried out?

I've used those analog two prong moisture meters, but I'm looking for something that can just sit in the pot permanently..

This part of the article jumped out at me. I spent about 5 years of my life on a start-up that eventually failed. I now have a pretty comfy tech job, and definitely earn enough money to be comfortable.

But there is always this restlessness that I feel. I learnt a lot of things in my 5 years, and feel I could do a better job if I were to start another company. I almost feel like those 5 years would be wasted if I don't take what I learnt and put it into my next company.

I put this together because I felt I needed a way to jump back to sections that I want to rehearse or reference.

Love the Steelcase Leap as well, the chair has all the right adjustments for me and feels very sturdy and well built. If shop around you can usually find these available second hand.

I built it mostly to organize and catalog guitar tutorials that I learn from.

I learn songs for the guitar primarily by watching youtube videos. I built this tool to organize these videos and to let me skip around to the the exact bits that I'm learning and practicing.

I'm sure there are other uses for this. Would love to hear feedback!

This reminds me of Neal Stephenson's The Diamond Age: Or, A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer. It's a great book and highly recommended for anyone that enjoys fantasy.

I wonder if in the future education will move towards individualized teaching based on systems like this, where a child is free to explore his interests.

I started learning Guitar specifically because I was spending all my time in front a screen.

Anecdote: I used to work from home and pretty much sat down the whole day. I would still go for a run once or twice a week, but I would quickly experience a sharp pain in my lower back that made it really hard to run. Some Googling led me to believe that my tight hip flexors might be causing my back pain, and that sitting down all day could lead to tight hip flexors. I've since started working for a couple of hours per day at a ghetto standing desk and my back pains are pretty much gone.

Another thing that I really highly recommend is Joe DeFranco's stetching programme, Limber 11 (https://youtu.be/FSSDLDhbacc). You can do the whole thing in about 10 minutes, and it leaves your whole body feeling nice and relaxed.

Aha, interesting, I'd never heard of Veblen goods before this. I'd also never thought about it in this manner before, making it a better product would make it actually worth the money, and hence less desirable.

Wow, excellent talk. I'm generally wary of these kinds of cosmetic changes, but the game really did look and feel so much better at the end.

This reminds me of http://nand2tetris.org/ (and the accompanying Coursera course). It's a fantastic course to learn about computing from first principles.

The course starts off with just a few logic gates and how you can combine these to make more complicated circuits. These are in turn combined to reach higher levels of abstraction, until you finally have a 16bit computer, with 16K of ram. It's a really cool course that helped me flesh out my understanding of what's going in my computer.

I cannot foresee how this will play out in the long term for the end consumer. In the short term, consumers get a whole lot of convenience and lower prices. What happens after a large chunk of other stores have gone out of business? How would any new player even approach entering the market? It almost seems impossible unless Amazon systematically screws up and leaves a gap for someone to exploit.

Interesting, this is the first time I'm hearing about promiscuous pairing. How big the team at your company is and what percentage of time is spent pair programming?
