The future was the death of Kodak as it existed regardless. They were a chemical manufacturing company that did some software. Their core business was doomed regardless. Could they have pivoted? Yes. But even if you correct every missed shot they’d still be a shell of their former selves unless you’re creating wild counterfactuals like a kodaphone.

Kodak was definitely mismanaged in many ways but you are correct in your analysis. If they had pivoted hard to digital they could have been what today? Nikon? Fujifilm? These are known brands that are bigger than Kodak is today but they are nothing compared to what Kodak was.

At its peak Kodak was one of the (the?) most well known brands on the entire planet. Anywhere in the world if someone snapped a photo Kodak was more than likely taking a cut, coming and going. They employed as many people in Rochester alone as any digital camera company does today internationally.

Tricky and 3 were both great fun. The latter “SSX” was decent but was missing the more arcadey fun of the earlier ones. I tried Steep and it did not hit the spot that hitting uber combos in SSX did.

I absolutely loved vyos but after their repeated hostility towards non paying users I moved to mikrotik for my routers (already had mikrotik switches).

First they stopped publishing LTS images, telling users to build from source. So people built gh repos you could clone and build with actions. Then they stopped making lts builds reproducible and told free users to use the preview release. But the preview release doesn’t get security updates. So if there’s a vulnerability you’re SOL until the next release which could be months. Not really tenable for an edge device for me and I’m not very interested in being a user of a product that does not want me.

Personally I am incapable of maintaining concentration on an audiobook while doing even mundane chores. I can only listen to audiobooks on longer drives or road run/bike rides. A murder is specifically an unjustified killing. And as far as I am aware it is universally considered bad. Which makes sense because murder being considered bad is pretty much baked into the definition.

I can’t think of a modern society that does not condemn going into a random person’s house and killing them. Nor any past ones for that matter.

Now in some backwards ass country they might not consider it murder if that random person was homosexual. Or a killing might be justified in the context of a revolution. Or to bring rain. Or when shooting some guy fleeing with your tv in the back.

On most private trackers if you level up to Power User you unlock an invite forum where other trackers explicitly advertise with set requirements. No risky trading or begging, no need to participate in the forums at all, nobody “finds you”. You just send a dm once you meet the requirements.

Not too many years back you only needed to be Elite on the big music site to cop an invite to PTP in the forums. Now it’s TM there which is much more work but still obtainable.

None of the major movie/tv trackers have onerous ratio requirements. But yeah you don’t need them for new mainstream releases. They’re only necessary if you’re particular on quality or want niche stuff.

That said the experience is 1000x better than using public trackers. It’s like if IMDB had a download button. Basically anything you could ever want in any quality you could ever want in a perfect organized library with all the metadata, consistent seeders and no DMCAs.

AI has already permanently changed the software development industry. That’s indisputable. Maybe it’ll also change many other industries.

But what does it change? Your employer can now pay the richest men on earth a portion of your salary instead of you. That’s it. There is presently no other meaningful benefit to AI outside cancer research etc, which of course no one has a problem with.

The problem is that there is approximately no one left in this country who believes that efficiency improvements in business will actually lead to savings on products in their lives. They just believe the rich will get richer and that everything that actually matters in their life will get more and more expensive while companies use AI to build subscription products that are just as expensive as when they used to employ 30% more people.

Oh and despite a complete lack of benefit to human beings these SaaS products are now the basis for our entire economy while driving up compute and power costs for actual people.

The only people who like AI are the people who directly benefit from the reduced labor costs.

I think you’ll find even people with 20 year old Toyotas are more attached to their trucks and more likely to put money in them for accessories and rims etc than your average Chevy Sonic owner.

I have very fond memories of playing the quake 3 arena demo in our high school computer labs in the late 2000s. I would install it every time i sat down at a computer and sometimes half the class would be in the lobby. It was dated by the time I found it but it was still incredible fun. I particularly loved the level with the platforms out in space.

Our photo teacher got fed up with the whole class playing one day so he froze everyone’s inputs with the monitoring software and went around killing everyone before simultaneously shutting off all the computers.

I really miss simpler games without progression systems and loadouts and gimmicks. l would imagine the gameplay probably still holds up today, it was very fast paced.

Notably truck people love customizing their trucks. Less so for economy sedan people.

There is currently no gpu in production that can max out the largest and fastest displays in graphically demanding games. We have monitors that are the equivalent of two 4k monitors side by side and run at 240hz. I have a 5080 and have to turn down settings to get 60fps in cyberpunk.

For the vast majority of users bitlocker just means that if someone steals your laptop or you leave it on a bus then short of a concerted effort by someone with technical ability, no one will have your photos or tax documents. It absolutely serves a meaningful purpose even if it has significant shortcomings.
