"Could" is an interesting choice of word. I know researchers are cautious but that wording makes it meaningless.

I did a simple test of "Chicago Velodrome", it provided something that has been closed since 2016, Google gave a better result of something that is actually around but in the Chicagoland area

For whatever reason, companies do not think this way. I usually get the rude comments with the 'we passed on you' email or voicemail.

Grass is always greener. You don't know the counterfactual and you would have likely been disappointed in your parents had they sent you to college early as well.

There is a legitimate start-up that basically is outsourcing tasks to a digital personal assistant but they log all questions and their researched answers. It make take a while but they will have a moat within a few years with a really robust repository.

I hate it when people claim jobs or work trump citizens rights. A minor example of this, why should developers and construction sites close sidewalks and car lanes?

This is correct. When I was at Allstate they had a 'labs' team to come up with innovative new technology. They were the only ones with standing desks, treadmill desks, bicycle desks, and over two years the only thing they accomplished was design a phone holder for a bicycle.

They had much greater success using Kaggle for data science competitions in terms of innovation.

Rockefeller did this with Standard Oil. They would routinely hire critics. It silences the critic and causes distrust of them going forward. People never trusted those critics ever again.

It used to mean something more than it does now. I noticed ex-Googlers were well above average in 2012, now they can be below avg. I have a colleague of mine at my current job that makes a point of being an ex-Googler but they only worked there for 6 months, so it is kind of meaningless.

Agreed. I work at a company that does 150 Billion transactions a day and it is cheaper being in the cloud than on prem for us. Maybe the variable cost is more but the fixed cost is a lot less for the business.

I was looking into this as well. The main difference between the two is user acquisition. Airbnb is doing no marketing right now and vrbo is doing lots. Also 46% more of their users go directly to Airbnb.com versus Vrbo. So you can run the exact same business but if one doesn't need to advertise and the other does it can make huge differences to the financials.
