I can attest to this. I've done this several times for the energy boost. I didn't know there is a name for it; "coffee nap". I tend to add dance/techno music to know when to wake up and get back to work.

Back in early 2011 I ran a BTC miner for awhile on a spare system and generated around 18 BTC. I bartered them later in 2011 for a pair of movie tickets to take my wife out to see Moneyball (ironically).

The end users of MailChimp require double opt-in before being signed up for receiving news letters, email, whatever, etc. Your use of "Automated cold e-mails" in the headline sounds oddly similar of spam to me.

I'm starting to question if morality and legality are considered the same by those in power? Honest question, although off topic and a bit esoteric.
This post has some special meaning to me. I work as a developer at a cancer hospital. The work I do directly helps clinical trials. I handle everything from trial conception to actual patient accruals and the resulting deluge of data.
Every little bit of tech I get to use which has a net positive affect on my efficiency reduces the time of my deliverables/milestones. My team and I develop the tools/software/data which the doctors/nurses/practitioners rely on to provide care, solve interesting medical puzzles, etc. It is a race against the clock. I get the privilege of writing code that has the potential to help cure cancer.
I switched from TextMate to Sublime Text 2 recently. I've been monitoring Light Table and ST3 as of late. Keep up the good work.

I wish the ladder and replays were available publicly, I have a few friends that are interested but are put off from the signup form. I think if I could send them a link to a replay without signing in, they would get a kick out of it and potentially join in on the fun.

There is a "Submit to Ladder" link under the title of your species. From what I can tell, after clicking that link, the ladder takes over and sets up matches automatically.
I'm having way too much fun with this.

As far as I can tell, there are 10.86m Bitcoins in existence at the current market rate $40.05. [1] That means there are almost $430m in "circulation".
According to the federal reserve 1.17trillion USD currency is in circulation. [2]

Not a perfect comparison, I realize that. It is more of a rough estimate.
If https://www.usertesting.com had an API, I think it would handle the majority of the points you listed.
UserTesting may already have one, however my brief two minutes of poking around didn't reveal that they do.

You may want to look over your current contract to be certain that anything you build on nights/weekends is indeed your own and doesn't end up your employer's by default. Otherwise... go for it!
Agreed. Communication is a skill and it is learnable. I suggest attending a PHP meetup [1] in your area or nearest city. I'm sure many of them would be interested in your background and they in return would be able to help you hone your communication skills, both verbally and in code. Good luck!
Thank you for writing out your perspective on this. It had a positive impact on my perception of my coworkers. I see that they are simply looking for an optimized customer experience to solve real problems. Previously, I saw them as part of the team but not part of the "problem solving" team. My perspective has shifted. Thanks for sharing.
I tweeted, tried to sign in with twitter which didn't work, then eventually created a standard account via email/pass to get into the content. The majority of the content is either a direct copy as cited or in reference to a post on a different site [1]. Not really ground breaking information, other than an Excel worksheet with mildly helpful formulas relevant to the topic.
