We have a 2 year old and we don't use our phones or devices when she's around unless it's a video call from family or an important phone call.

We're happy with the results so far since she's turned out to be a very patient, intelligent, and attentive child. She finds enjoyment in books, puzzles, drawing, cooking, gardening, cleaning, unloading/loading the dishwasher, laundry, and all sorts of activities her overstimulated peers would find boring nowadays.

The Sounds of CDMX 4 years ago

I lived in CDMX and this sound (among several others) made me resent the city. All the Mexican's I knew didn't mind it and seemed to tune it out. If you like peace and quiet, living in Mexico City is not for you.

I've had a few occasions that employees thought I worked for the company based on my email.

On one occasion, I was checking into a Hilton hotel and the employee thought I worked for corporate due to my email, hilton@domain.tld.

In the past, I used to explain to them how I control the domain and I have separate emails for every company due to spam reasons. However, this usually caused confusion so now I sometimes go along with what they think or hint that I'm some 'mystery shopper'.

I lived in Mexico for a few years but decided to leave last year after getting married and having a child. It's an awful place if you value things like safety, health, education, infrastructure, and most importantly, the rule of law.

For me all the news reports of kidnappings and violence were just background noise until it hit close to home. My wife's sister-in-laws family was kidnapped and badly beaten to the point where her brother developed a permanent mental handicap. They were released and are now scrambling to immigrate to the US.

In a separate incident, the person who organized our wedding was also kidnapped but never found.

These types of cases are so common here that they don't even make the news, whether local or national.

It's quite obvious after watching his videos that the 'campaign' is just a joke. Felix and his subscribers know that he will inevitably lose the top spot on Youtube and they're just having some fun.

Majority of Felix's content is just satire and inside jokes. If you know Felix and his content, it's very obvious that the diss track is actually poking more fun at other Youtubers who make diss tracks unironically.

Here's a decent video by EmpLemon explaining the history of Pewdiepie's channel and where he is now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cvgoY0cmzk

I lived in Mexico City for a couple of years and visited around 20 cities. Not only did I never feel uncomfortable or scared, I discovered many beautiful places I could see myself retiring in. When your expectations are very low about a place, you are swept off your feet when you see the amazing reality.

After my travels in Mexico and Latin America, I feel like statistics without proper context and sensationalist news do a big disservice to people. It's a lot more exciting and interesting to focus on pockets of areas where gang-on-gang violence is occurring. People would rather click on article to read about drug related news rather than a piece discussing the many great festivals coming up in Mexico City and around the country.

However, the reality is that life in the majority of the country is just like anywhere you'd imagine, sometimes fun, sometimes normal, and sometimes boring. The only danger being from purposefully looking for trouble or being very unlucky by being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

To put it in another way, someone can also ask why would anyone want to visit the US after all the news about gun violence? Why would anyone want to visit the US after reading about the crime in Detroit, Memphis, South Chicago, Baltimore, etc.

I've been to the US (including Detroit and Chicago) enough to know what it's really like and now understand the context better when reading news articles about crime and violence there.

You're making a very broad assumption and making a very specific suggestion based on it. Even though you corrected yourself later saying that immigration is not controlled provincially, this type of thinking is pretty backwards.

I think it's caused by people reading too much into sensationalist news articles and headlines which exaggerate or hyper-focus on useless details to get attention and views. While in reality, nothing has really changed (or will likely change) that would cause someone to move to another city.

It reminds me of the people who talked about moving to Canada after the last American election. I'm curious to know if the people that moved were actually impacted directly by the election or whether they were just trying to make a political statement.

Here in Mexico, all I remember is the anti-Trump narrative that was being pushed the by mainstream news companies (in a scarily coordinated matter). If these organizations were able to defeat this non-stop barrage of articles and news coverage, then they should be commended for taking on essentially the entire American establishment.

Perhaps all the attention from this news coverage (almost all negative) gave Trump the edge.

Perhaps the average person realized that something is fishy about all this coordinated negative coverage and looked for alternative sources.

Perhaps his message was powerful and important enough for most people that they could ignore the negative media assault.

Either way, I think it's time to stop looking for scapegoats and move on.

Turkey has been a secular state since 1924 and is quite modern and pleasant. I think you may have Turkey confused with Shariah friendly Saudi Arabia, a place I don't ever plan on visiting.

Considering that American's trust in mainstream media is an all time low [1], I'm sure there is a big demand for alternative news. I'm not surprised people are looking for content that fits their narrative and end up reading fake articles.

As someone observing from Mexico, I noticed almost all of the mainstream US media became an echo chamber for pro-Clinton content. I only realized this after after seeing how Sanders was sabotaged and the media collectively tried to bury it. Here in Mexico it's a similar situation with a few big media outlets protecting the corrupt status quo.

It depends on what you mean by 'better'. The sources I linked are reporting on emails from Wikileaks. Therefore, I think Wikileaks would be the best source for the raw information without any editorializing or spin.

I doubt some media outlets would offer any decent reporting on these leaks as it damaged their credibility (e.g. Huffington Post, CNN, Politico, NYT, etc)

I'm afraid to install this. Does it actually work or is it another common fake app found on the Play store?

I've always been curious how these image hosting sites are able to handle all this bandwidth and still stay profitable. According to their Wiki, Imgur averages around 90 terabytes a day!

I know that Imgur has some advertisements on their site, but I doubt they can earn enough from those ads to sustain their server and bandwidth costs.
