I think the point the GP is making is that users who use TV as merely displays and not connected to the internet cannot have access to this data, whereas connected TVs can send whatever fingerprinted data they want back home.

Short answer, yes. Long answer: Learning how to read other people's code will help your literacy of the language and you may even learn a new trick along the way. It might seem like an arduous task now, but as you get into the habit of reading more code, you'll be able to recognize patterns and processes much faster thereby improving your velocity.

Your account of walking through the SF MOMA and being mesmerized by the possibility of turning the art into algorithms exactly mirrors my experience. I too wondered if there was a way to develop Chuck Close's mosaics with some image manipulation, but for small project I instead focused on interpreting Sol LeWitt's wall drawings as code first.

It's a shame that America (and possibly other first world countries) punish developing countries for not bending to their will. With the massive amount influence that the US has on the world, it's hard not to imagine that we've become the global mafia by demanding payment--however unjust or in bad taste--in exchange for economic and military protection.

This is something I've observed and would be curious to know too.
