I think it was a typo and meant to be "worth noting"

Hyper are the creators of Hyperledger, the decentralised ledger platform without a cryptocurrency. We're primarily working with banks and other financial institutions to take a pragmatic approach to applying this to real world problems, such as clearing and settlement.
Our code is open source and written in Elixir (on Erlang / OTP): https://github.com/hyperledger/hyperledger-server
Looking for:
5+ years industry experience Knowledge of Elixir/Erlang Proven deployments of distributed systems Excellent knowledge of database management, both relational and key-value Proven experience of automating operations Working understanding of cryptography and key management
You would be employee number 1. More info: http://hyperledger.com/about.html#jobs
My direct email: do [at] hyperledger
What are you on about?
Yeah, really terrible landing page, I'm afraid. You'll have an extremely low conversion rate which will be a big waste of a Show HN. The announcement post is also hidden quite small in the footer. I would have ignored this as legal if it weren't for the parent comment.
As it is, I'm not going to sign up without some clear value. Hope to see it again with an improved landing page.
Just the one Baidu image would suffice ;) Don't need one for every site they use it on. Also, I know it's not _that_ similar, but the logo still said Docker to me.
It's available on UNIX systems from the CLI, and is open source: https://github.com/koenbok/cactus
You can, you can directly upload the contents of the .build folder to any host.
It does. Check the .build folder for uploadable files to any host.
Prime example of anecdotal evidence not being worth much. You're subject to bias based on your income level: http://techcrunch.com/2011/08/05/android-iphone-state/
We wish Stellar all the best and it's certainly a huge improvement on Ripple Labs, but we're also working on a (not directly competitive, but related) project http://hyperledger.com/ without any native currency or pre-allocation at all.
Hope we can integrate with Stellar as soon as possible.
Yes, by the creator of Ripple who was forced out. This is the continuation of Ripple towards what it was supposed to be.
Technically, it actually works the other way around from vesting. Instead of you having 0% of your shares and working your way up to 100%, you start with 100% of your shares but the company has a Repurchase Right to buy back shares from you for (effectively) nothing. They incrementally lose this right until they have the right to repurchase 0% of your shares, which is when you are "fully vested".
Looks like HN took it down. Will have to come back later as the screenshot looked awesome.
I think you mean the URL in the ledger creation command, e.g., 'hyperledger ledger register newcoin https://newcoin.com'. This would just be the official site of the asset or company, like bitcoin.org is for bitcoin. Currently, this is just used so people can get extra information, but it could be used in the future to remove spam currencies if there is no official site (although we would not be able to do this ourselves, it would require the consent of the entire consensus pool).
Thanks a lot. Payment networks can be extremely complicated so we all benefit by working on the same underlying layer, as long as it is truly open. Please do and let us know how you get along!
Wow. Well thank you for putting a huge smile on my face. Very kind comment and extremely appreciated. Thought it would make a nice change from all the flat design sites out there. I hope your experience with everything else is as good!
Thanks a lot!
As the other commenter noted, our only plan to directly monetise the project is via a commercially supported premium consensus pool. However, long term we do plan to set up a commercial entity to build on top of hyperledger (in the same way that anyone could) to offer various related services. This are all in far too early stages to share just yet though, I'm afraid!
Can you elaborate on this? I'm not clear what you mean either.
There are lots of similarities but also some very key differences.
The main one being that there is no native currency like XRP, so there is no risk of a similar situation to the current fiasco arising.
hyperledger is designed to be far more light weight and flexible than Ripple, meaning that instead of just being a conduit to trade other assets, hyperledger allows organisations to also issue their own assets, which they have complete control over.
We also have a different notion of pools. Anyone can create their own consensus pool with its own membership requirement rules or features, such as private transaction.
We achieve consensus by a slight different method. More info on this to come, please check the FAQ: http://www.hyperledger.com/faqs.html#ripple
Currently we are a small team of two, myself on the business/marketing side (we will be building commercial products on top of the open project, just as any user could) and feichtinger who is the main technical side. A bit more info on the contact page. Happy to answer any specifics here.
Haha. Perhaps we need to update our intro then, as I highly doubt that's true! Essentially, hyperledger is a decentralised set of servers (owned and operated by lots of different people). Each server has the same collection of ledgers, accounts and balances, as each other, i.e., they have consensus over who owns what. When there is a transaction between accounts, the client that controls the account notifies one server, which then checks this is possible with all other servers. Each client and server sign every request they make, so fraudulent transactions can be detected easily and bad clients or servers can be blacklisted.
I'm British and in the US I have to deliberately say "Daaayn" so as not to be called Don.
I have to admit, when I first read it I thought it was a new euphemism for being screwed over by Bitstamp, a la "Goxed".
And we tend to see conservatives of supporters of both empire building and attacks on civil liberties. In no way clearly the lesser of two evils.
The page doesn't really sell the client to me at all if I'm not already familiar with the desktop version, which I'm not.
Surely not over that period of time.
Completely agree. Hide as much as possible that isn't annoying on a regular basis then learn the keyboard shortcuts for everything else if you're such a power user.
Personally, and of course you can define it however you want, I think something that "changes the world" needs to be both significant and lasting. Getting people to play one game instead of another for a few months isn't either. Squeezable ketchup bottles are much closer.
Perhaps I'm mishearing but it sounds to me more like they are pronouncing it "yo" (English) or "you" (Chinese) here in Beijing, which does sound more like 6. yi/qi are slightly similar but I never have the same issue. I've given up on trying to be correct and use yi most of the time.
Which I find very frustrating as it sounds much more similar to liu (6) when pronounced in my crappy Chinese than yi does.
Yup, I believe Linus uses the Pixel.
