Unfortunately real life problems involve a lot of context and introducing that to interviews is hard. It either requires a long conversation where someone might lose track, or involve writing a large ish code base and getting them to work on that (which is a lot of work, and once again they don’t have context).

In my experience if a problem simple enough to be completed in an hour, it’s simple enough for AI.

I’d be curious how old this rule is - because a lot of other goods have really dropped in price.

Food costs for a household were closer to 30% if income and now that’s dropped to 10%. Clothing and technology has taken a similar path.

My partners family plays a version of Canasta where you start dealing by picking up all the cards you think you’ll need to deal and if you picked it perfectly you get another 100 points.

It’s a great addition to the game and makes it a positive to be the dealer.

It’s possible but I’ve talked to friends who work at gyms and various other sport related areas and they all agree.

Sample size is very small still.

When I was younger I worked at a local supermarket and later at a sports store - turns out customers at the sports store were almost exclusively nice.

Not a huge sample size as I only worked at the one store but from talking to others seems like the number of degenerates is waaaay lower when people play sports

Canva is the best solution for higher quality presentations. The templates make everything you do look professional and it's really easy to use.

Don’t overthink it at first. Just slap a Google Adsense banner on it and build on it from there. Often traffic spikes like this aren’t long lived.

In my opinion you've already got a job at Microsoft - and I imagine a decent amount of savings then. If things go bad you'll still have those skills and you'll be able to get another highly paid job in corporate. I strongly disagree that startups are like corporate. Startups don't have all the red tape which allows you to move very quickly which I personally find very satisfying!

I see it as talking about skill set not renumeration. The skill set differs from a normal engineer as it’s better to have a large breadth of knowledge and there’s more of an expectation to work hard and have a lot of ownership. In Australia it seems like the going rate of equity for early engineers is south of 5% and if you get in truly early stage then what you said makes sense.

Definitely an interesting read but I'm surprised he doesn't even approach the notion of asset price inflation being the primary form of inflation from all this money printing that's been going on.

It's the Amazon playbook. They charge what they think will be profitable 5 years in the future and pay their way through until they can profitably support that price.
