I don't buy that argument.

I would pay for an Ubuntu that runs flawlessly and supports more software.

1.) We only introduce you to Investors if you told us that you want to be introduced to investors. That's the first layer.

2.) We will prefer people who have mutual friends, many friends and live nearby.

3.) We are thinking about a curation/application feature where people get a score or are voted about to become introduced.

4.) We can't protect you from spam 100%

We could give you a number of introductions/matches for free and if you want more, like 20 introductions to iPhone developers you would have to pay for it.

So far we haven't found something promising in the meetup space. We'll probably pivot somewhere else.

We haven't found a niche that may be suited better. We'll likely pivot to something else.

Yeah, maybe we'll apply for the next YC class.

A few months when it was just a little side project and then 6 weeks fulltime. We only burnt 6 weeks of salaries.

We thought about that. We wanted to make people define a minimum number of attendees. But that's more of a feature, not a product.

Meet with VCs, Business Angels, Founders, etc. for some months regularly and keep them updated about your startup, maybe work with them on a project, do some freelancing for them or become an employee at their company. Then they get to know you and your skills. Then pitch them an idea that gets them exicted that they themselves can understand. Something in their space.

We wanted to make spontaneous meetups happen. However, our real world is not made for spontaneous meetups. You have to spam about 70 people to find some people to meet spontaneously. And if you only have 10 friends near you, chances are not good that a spontaneous meetup will happen.

One more thing. Maybe we shouldn't focus on job seekers. Who else is there to focus on? Answer: People who have a job but want to have a better job. These people don't spend their time browsing job sites because they don't desperately need a job. But they may subscribe to our service because it requires no additional time.

Oh I didn't actually answer your question in my last post. At first we have to get our hands dirty to get the seekers to sign up for the list. Talk to people directly, ask for feedback in developer message boards etc. But if they like the convenience of the service it hopefully spreads.

Ours is a different approach that has some advantages and some drawbacks. As a job seeker, all you have to do is join the list and then you will get offers automatically. It's literally no work. But we don't know if it's gonna work. Depends much on your feedback.

Do you mean the Chuck Norris part?

True. A lot of people are probably better off not living the startup life.

Exactly. We started to work on our startup about 15 months ago and we still don't have a publicly launchable version. But we made a prototype and have 80+ test users. That kind of interaction with our users makes things easier and helps us to stay motivated.

Yes you are right. My two co-founders and me are still in college/university. We live - to some extend - in a college world and we face problems which may not be faced by folks already out there working at companies.
