Given some of the caveats I mentioned towards the end of the article I'd be a bit wary putting too much trust in LLMs for this use case at this stage. But the field is moving so fast that I don't doubt it will soon be less error prone than a human doing it.

Yeah it's not ideal, but it mostly works - at least in this case. I think each MCP tool works best when it can be kept lean and needs only a small number of arguments.

There's basically a couple of different ways to implement an MCP server - for this demo it's a local binary that communicates over stdio, so no OAuth process is taking place. It's only meant to run on your local machine.

To make the demo simpler to explore and understand, the binary loads it's configuration (SnapTrade API client id, secret, and username and secret) from a .env file that you populate with your credentials which allows it to fetch the right data.

I setup a project somewhat along these lines with a Raspberry Pi, a USB DAC, and spotifyd. Now I have a decent and convenient audio player hooked up to my sound system. May not pass all the bars for an audiophile but the sound quality is actually fairly decent - much better than my previous Alexa setup - which is all I needed.

I've used Ollama to run Llama 2 (all variants) on my 2020 Intel MacBook Pro - it's incredibly easy. You just install the app and run a couple of shell commands. I'm guessing soon-ish this model will be available too and then you'd be able to use it with the Continue VS Code extension.

Edited to add: Though somewhat slow, swap seems to have been a good enough replacement for not having the loads of RAM required. Ollama says "32 GB to run the 13B models", but I'm running the llama2:13b model on a 16 GB MBP.

I recently took to rewriting what should be a very simple app from Obj-C to Swift with SwiftUI - because it's the future. The CPU usage was at 5% while idle, just for having a simple tiny pie chart that updates. Not to mention that for some seemingly basic things I still had to use AppKit anyway.

Wrote basically the exact same thing 1 day later in Swift with AppKit and NO SwiftUI and it sits at 0% CPU usage with less code complexity. Maybe in a few years I will give SwiftUI another try.

I've been using Mux & sqlc in a few projects and it's working out great.

As a financially-insecure immigrant, that line actually helped me understand his mindset, and did not come across in any way as a "hero narrative".

I use VS Code's native integration with WSL. So VS Code runs as a native Windows app with nearly everything you'd expect, but the actual files being read/saved are inside WSL. Works great with Vagrant, Docker for Desktop, Git etc.

I love how "population surveillance" was explicitly mentioned as a goal.

Or Win+Shift+S. I think you need to be on a newer Windows 10 release for it to work.

Still not as smooth as on macOS, but getting there.

I really like(d) Sublime and used it till somewhat recently. If there was semi-public development going on, it wasn't very discoverable.

Just tried the LSP plugin before reading your comment. Wanted to use it for Go development, but it can't even do basic autocomplete or suggestions. Actually, I can't even tell if it's running. The VSCode PLS gets stuck sometimes, but 99+% of the time it works great.

Even so, damn, Sublime Text is fast. I really do wish they catch up in other aspects.

We NEVER wear shoes inside our homes in Macedonia, but going to the gym I was required to bring "indoor shoes/sneakers". Ie. ones that I will use exclusively there or indoor environments. Helps keep the gym cleaner.

A lot of the newer Apple products are fairly iconic as well: iPhones, iPads, MacBook Pros, and a lot of people consider some of the iMacs such as G3 or G4 to be iconic as well. So there's still contemporary iconic hardware for someone to write their first program on :)

Not sure this is all that typical. While repair costs can get to a fairly large percentage of the purchase price and thus not making sense in some situations, it's not always the case.

I recently repaired a Sony soundbar system for about 30% of the purchase price, so definitely not "at the cost of replacement". Replaced a phone screen for 10% the cost of a new one etc.

I think your fix would have to be eligible for some program of theirs like the one they had for the GPU issues [1]. Best to check with an authorized reseller/service and have a look at their current Repair Extension programs [2].

I had an MBP with a fried motherboard, out of warranty and paid for it to be replaced out of pocket (400 eur or so). Some months later Apple contacted me and WIRED money to my bank account to compensate the cost. This was for an Early 2011 MBP and they had GPU replacement program for it after a lot of reports about issues.

All of this in North Macedonia, with no Apple stores (but the fix was done at an authorized reseller). To be honest I was kind of amazed they did that and definitely left a lasting good impression of them.

Love the idea. I'll have to browse their lists and look for some new movies to watch.

If I'm already using Firefox on Mac, Windows & iPhone, what advantage does this bring over just opening the Firefox app on my iPhone and looking in Settings > Saved logins? Seems to me to be exactly the same, am I missing anything?

Slightly off-topic, but it's super interesting to see Flutter (which seems to be by Google), use Visual Studio Code (by Microsoft) and an iPhone X simulator (by Apple) as their main demo. I guess it gets the point across.

I've had DDG set as default for maybe a year now, across desktop and mobile. As time passes, I find myself using !g less and less, probably less than 10% of the time now. Most of my queries are technical or for common-ish topics, and it's been great.

I really wish they'd bring out an update to their Microsoft Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 [0] instead. Even if it's the exact same mouse, just with a nano receiver rather than the old, giant receiver.

The supposed successor, the Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Mouse [1], doesn't quite feel the same.
