Not sure what is really the meaning. I work hard as I am sure we all do. I am reading this thread while chasing around my 4 kiddos. We all need a beak and we are lucky and grateful to be given those opportunities. I follow hacker news daily so I am just happy that someone who made this all happen to get a chance to relax and reflect. It's deserved.
And I find that when you really dig deep and go for the projects that you are truly passionate about you will participate with people who are your friends. Words are words but the founders of Y combinator are a small group. I would think they are friends. A personal opinion/thought
Congrats! It's amazing to live in an era of employers allowing friends to take a deep breath, reflect and come back to work with a renewed sense of themselves and their purpose. It is a great chance to reflect on what you have accomplished and what lies ahead.
Video that goes into detail about what Calico. https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=PLlh6TqkU8kg_Eydfk1Nyt6iK...
My wife and I have 4 children, she has insisted that they start lessons at a young age, and now my 9 and 7 year olds are excellent swimmers, with a 2 year old that can make it to the side if he falls in. It is absolutely terrifying to see these videos, but it helps knowing that we are doing everything we can to keep them safe.
So I have to wonder.... why? If I was you I would put the link to https://github.com/andrewromanenco/pyjvm/blob/master/WHY.md front and center. That's great that it was done for academic purposes but I didn't understand that from the main page.
Worst case could you sell it for 1k. Then you lose 500. I say it's worth it.
Who is going to do this in brainfuck?
I would love to know more about this book but it seems to not be released yet and there are no reviews. Not sure what the point of posting it is or why it is up voted. More details would be great.
I fully agree. We track millions of events per day and I use hive and hadoop to do my analysis. Not as user friendly but putting the data into a pivot table helps alot.
very austin powers ish
I wrote www.squarechat.com a while ago as a pet project, but it just seems like there isn't a good way to accomplish this without using flash or a plugin.
me too! Thanks
I/We are also using Hive to process compressed logs, manipulate them and create sub tables, that we can query on. We use Amazon EMR, and storing the data on s3. But mainly we use it for text processing via HQL.(Right or wrong it creates some structure around our data.)
I can't seem to get the service to work. The page loads but I get a blank screen. Oh well.
Love his articles. They may not be 100% his ideas but with a quick article you can be refreshed and ready to look at the world differently.
One thing I like about products that work... They work, and I don't have to. Which is why I like dropbox.
They let me cancel the trip so there is no issue with LivingSocial having that as a part of their flow, but it would be nice to have a confirmation page between purchases over a certain amount.
True but it goes to point out that user interface flaws/features that are not expected.
Looks like it uses canvas to draw the qr. Using something like http://raphaeljs.com/ would have made it even better for backwards compatibility. Awesome job though!
Some interesting blog entries by rapleaf.com
This is just a room so you can see others on and not just yourself http://squarechat.com/hackernews
or just http://squarechat.com/hackernews to get into a room with others.
Or just use mine. http://www.squarechat.com Shameless plug
I think you can only stop others from serving but looks tedious.
If they deleted the cookie then they would not be able to tell that you opted out they need to set a new cookie so that the next time they see you on their network they can specifically know that you are someone who doesn't want to be a part of their targeting.
The whole point of this is to self regulate. If they don't put forms of regulation like this out on the internet then their will be many people who are very angry with them for not making this available so they are jumping the gun and trying to regulate themselves.
But really the people who will opt out are going to be a drop in the bucket compared to the masses that have no clue that this is even there.
(EDIT)If you want to see what data they actually know about you visit this site. http://tags.bluekai.com/registry
It can be a good way for people to be targeted on what they are about to do if they are targeted in the appropriate way. A company called bluekai sells this kind of data but it is really alot of junk from what I have seen. There are ways though to know when someone has already completed an action or has the intent to complete an action. You might also know that someone will be in a specific city that is not their home, where ads can be targeted.
But I do agree that in the past and to this day there are many ads that lack the appropriate context to be retargeting you on ad networks.
