That's the UK in a nutshell this past decade. Privatise all of the public services for a quick buck, and slowly but surely the service decays whilst the prices for consumers increases. The trains in the UK are a great example of this.

Voron would be my recommendation. It ticks all the boxes of what you need it to do. The only caveat is you need to build it, screw by screw (unless you buy a pre-assembled one such as siboor). It also requires printed parts which can be ordered via Vorons PIF program (high quality, printer-verified parts).

Depending on how easy you find it, it will take at least 10 hours to build. But that is part of the fun.

Software and repairability are there. Spares are cheap and klipper is open source. It can work offline but it works better paired with tailscale. You can upload sliced models OTA.

Slicing models will be the easiest part. I'd recommend the basic orcaSlicer set up for the printer of choice and go from there.

Because it's already killing people every day. And is slowly but surely making our environment entirely unstable. But as a typical consumer we don't have much power to stop it.

Do you need unlimited money? Not necessarily, but there are so many different possibilities when it comes to dealing with it. Carbon capture, green energy, (fusion?!), energy storage, planting more millions of trees, phasing out fossil fuels, holding companies accountable for their use of fossil fuels, the list goes on.

Looking at any one of these would be an expensive endeavour. Hopefully we can find small but very impactful methods in dealing with our climate troubles. Because as someone who turns 30 this year, it isn't looking promising for the next 30 years.

great app, I like the adaptive style, but one piece of feedback is that, sometimes it is not clear what the goal is. For example, the language "Brilliant queen win ahead!" tells me, right, I am going to checkmate for the win with the queen in this game. But, actually the puzzle is to instead win the queen piece. "win" in chess to me always means checkmate.

Next.js has introduced some keywords such as 'use server' and 'use client' that you enter in the file at the top. Much like 'use strict'. If you attempt to use server code in a client file for example, it will get caught by the ts compiler / Linter.

But for sure the lack of clear lines for where the server ends and the client begins has always been a pain of these kinds of framework offerings.

British-born here. Standing on a plug is somewhat a rite of passage that each kid goes through at least once. It's a meme in the UK.

The flat back of most plugs increased the risk of standing on this type of plug. It's similar to the experience of standing on Lego, except it will dig much deeper into your foot, and falling over is better than putting all of your weight on it.

It can be a common occurrence, because using an extension cord or an appliance you don't always need to have plugged in can just be laying around. And kids aren't known for being tidy. If you managed to get past being a clumsy kid and had the self awareness to avoid it, props to you.

Very cool options here. I'm always looking for options to throw something on a spare raspberry pi and this looks like a great tool to self-host.

This reminds me of the time I just learned how to write .bat scripts for Windows, when I was a teenager.

The power of being able to send this file via msn to a friend, convince them to open it, and then get a full message in capitals of "YOU HACKED ME! MY COMPUTER IS BROKEN!" Before watching them go offline (the script shut down their computer after 30 seconds) was a real heart racer. I am sure it contributed to my interest in computers in the following years.

This article taught me nothing about managing people I can't fire and I was really hoping to take something from this. I've had this happen before (and it may happen again) so I'm disappointed that this just ending up being "if you want to fire someone, and your boss doesn't let you, you'll probably quit".

Works just fine for me

For the average user, absolutely it's voice and game streaming. But I've found the more I've used discord, is that a lot of online communities, that typically would exist on Reddit or a forum, also have discord servers for communicating and community management.

To "lose face" with a team shows a lack of trust. I think it's fine if you don't have a perfect solution, but require some eyes on your work. But you're right, if you don't have people your level (or better yet, more experienced) reviewing your work, getting an honest code review is challenging.

The cynic in me thinks that the US is going to roll over and take this fascist shake down. The optimist in me thinks that the people will rise up with a resounding NO and do something about it. Right now I'm not sure which I believe.
