Which is a shame because the platform as a developer is awesome. I've developed for both iOS and Android and will always favour Android. But Apple seem to have more consistent and possibly better customer service compared to Google, especially when it comes to the ability to get a knowledgeable answer after failing an app review.

Totally agree - Theranos went on for something like a decade without any evidence they had made any sort of process breakthrough or innovation. The whole company was built on lies and bullshit. The co-founder dude who put up the initial money made that money by speculating on the dot com boom of 1999/2000 and getting out before it bust.

In my view there's been a turnaround since the days when they were seen as money hungry monopolists. They're still a business that has to make money, but they're contributing to open source more, and they've released Visual Studio as effectively a free developer tool now with their Community Edition.

Minor point but I know c# has a GeoCoordinate class into the framework Dlls. It also contains methods to calculate distance between points. Many .net Devs I've worked with didn't know about it. I think it came out first in .net 4.0.

You're totally correct, you can do pretty much anything you want in Android running in the background. But the post you replied to is referring to Stopping an app .. via the app info in settings. In this case it stops the background service component until you launch it manually again. Noone apart from power users and developers would do this though.. most people likely don't know what the stop app function does.

There are OS battery optimisations which kick in eventually though, which result in most non system apps to be stopped automatically to save battery. Once again, they won't startup in the background again until being manually launched. This is my general understanding gained from working for a couple of years on an Android app that runs in the background and receives silent notifications.
