I'm back after posting TinyPress here 4ish years ago. Thanks for the feedback on that project, really was amazing.

## A few notes:

- MOBILE NOT SUPPORTED. THIS ALPHA INCLUDES DESKTOP VERSION OF WEB APP. SORRY :(

- It's on the $7/month heroku hosting for now. And images aren't cached locally - so give the pages a few seconds to load please.

- The search page specifically needs a few seconds to load.

- This is early early alpha (v0.5), releases are rolling out daily to update UI & functionality.

- There will be more GoodReads functionality coming. I have a full social posting and networking feature set that is 100% done and tested, just not quite where I'd like it somehow, so I turned that off in the app for now. At this point the app is all about discovering podcasts and maintaining your library.

- Also please note most things on the site are temp - not final - including the logo and name of the site itself.

I'll be gone for most of the day traveling, but lmk how I can improve this. I'm SUPER interested in feedback and constructive criticism.

Yep. A verry rough v1 of this has been in the works for quite some time, with a few friends of mine. But they have all moved on to other projects and this is now my baby. Also, this is a completely overhauled version - hence today's HN post.

Interesting. I'm re-building the core engine powering this using (basically all Javascript right now on Backbone) in Ruby + Javascript with an actual postgresql database behind it. Right now it's using an in memory store for things like your autosave drafts etc.

Do you think I should open source the project? Right now the Android app and the web-app (mentioned above) are closed source, but the philosophy of this platform is about open source writing - and to not have an open source application powering that seems antithetical. What do you think?

Really interesting point. I'm not exactly sure what I think would happen, but my intuition is that GitHub wouldn't turn off access to GitHub pages just for users on our platform - even if traffic was excessive. I think this generates a lot of interest in GitHub in general which is beneficial for them.

But you are right, I believe a git based cms/blog that runs in some standalone fashion could be a v2 or v3 of this product. Or perhaps a one-off paid option if you don't want to use GitHub, you can pay to use our private git repo or even a git repo you host on your own.

If this is rails, just add the doctype to the layout you are using for devise sessions. Easy to overlook. Not smart to be missing in production.

I understand what you are saying, but have yet to encounter any of the same problems. I didn't know I could create aliases in bash though, so that really invalidates that portion of my article. Thanks for pointing that out. I will certainly look into that, and if I have any of the same problems I will certainly think about just switching back to bash and using aliases.

I agree. I like to pay Dropbox because in doing that I know what I am getting. I know they aren't selling my data, or my privacy because I actually know what I am purchasing. I am giving my money over to them for a service they offer. "Free, unlimited" is just something that I have a few concerns with. The first, would be that I have no idea how they make their money (probably advertisement?), but if not they are perhaps selling your data or privacy to third parties. Of course, there is an option that it is run by someone with just so much money that they don't mind giving it all away for free. But that is very rare. The second concern I have is how long can a free and unlimited service stay up. This is why I have moved my stuff out of Bitcasa after testing it, even though after an SSH I realized I had over 300 Terabytes to store items. I just can't justify those sorts of things though in my own sense. So yeah, I agree spidey-senses be a tinglin'.

If we use your service do you have any terms for selling an app on the store? Do we have to give you a % or can we just freely do what we wish/if we pay your service?

Is an invalid URL. You put the period inside the last </a>. You should toss that out :)
