It's frustratingly difficult to even get through the first lesson in which you are supposed to focus on your breath and minimize the wandering of your mind.

There’s the problem: trying to control your thoughts. Thoughts will come and you shouldn’t beat yourself up when they do. Be patient, keep practicing, and you’ll get better at focusing.

Alternatively consider something like box breathing. I use the iBreathe app and find that works better for me than meditation.

It can be difficult to separate the benefits of rewriting in Rust with the benefits of rewriting in general. But you can get the most benefit by structuring your code in a way that forces its correctness to be validated at compile-time, where possible. You can limit a lot of bugs and programmer mistakes this way, as well as better reason about the code.

But ultimately you can use any language you want and you don’t need to do anything just because other people are doing it. Do what makes sense for your project.

For distribution perhaps, but for acquisition it makes sense to have the highest resolution possible.

Shipping physical products can open you up to more fraud, because once it’s in the mail, it’s in the mail. The customer can say it never arrived or claim their card was fraudulently used in order to keep using the product for free. Whereas with a SaaS you just disable their access.

I remember using these on movie sets as crash cams - a cheap camera that could be mounted on something fast-moving so you could get cool action shots without risking the $100k primary camera. But the main selling point for this use-case is that they were cheap, and that’s a fight the Chinese companies will always win.

It certainly could in the long-term but the spec is still being finalized and realistically a few years away from being able to put a dent in the HBM memory market.

There are multiple companies that sell used server parts, such as ServerPartDeals.com. Additionally you may want to look into manufacturer or third-party refurbishing as this can save money while guaranteeing that the component still works.

Generally public places do not have cameras that record your interactions with others in detail (including sound) and the owners of the establishment generally do not interact with you for the sole purpose of generating footage they can monetize online.

Additionally there are laws and expectations around cameras in places like bathrooms. Those laws still exist for smartglasses-wearers, but it can be hard to police if it is not obvious that the glasses have cameras and are recording.

I also had this issue. PayPal said to gather more data like proof of use, IP addresses, etc, and I still lost every time. I even had a couple of people be surprised that their account stopped working after they did a chargeback…

The advantage that PayPal offers me as a buyer is a middleman between the vendor and myself that I control. The vendor does not get any of my card or bank info, and if it’s a subscription I can easily cancel it at any time on the PayPal side without having to go through whatever dark patterns the vendor might have to prevent you unsubscribing.

It’s fascinating that those on the right seem to think they’re improving America’s standing in the world and fighting China’s dominance, while actually doing the complete opposite. But IMO the biggest damage isn’t from China or Iran but the fact that our allies have realized they can no longer count on us.

I recently ran into a problem with a device I bought online. It was refusing to charge and I thought it was dead. I contacted the manufacturer and they suggested the charging brick I was using was too powerful and to use a weaker one. Sure enough, a weaker one worked just fine.

So if you only bring a single power bank on a trip, make sure it can power all of your devices, especially if some of them are by third-party unknown manufacturers.

Unfortunately environmental damage is not limited to the places that pollute the most - we all suffer even if we aren’t the ones doing it.

I think Rust is noticeably slow for two reasons:

1. The default settings aren’t well optimized. So the pattern a lot of people fall into is: start a project and everything’s fast, then add more code and dependencies and everything gets super slow. Then you Google how to fix it, change some compile settings and restructure your project and it speeds up again. Rust requires knowledge and effort to keep compile times reasonable - it’s not set up that way by default.

2. Rust Analyzer / cargo check is inefficient and throws a lot of data away each time instead of caching it. So in a larger project you’re waiting on it to catch up. Waiting on Rust Analyzer to check my code is easily the largest amount of time wasted, more so than actually compiling it.

This Rust rewrite would've taken a team of engineers with full-context on the codebase a year of work. With 1 engineer using Fable & closely monitoring Claude Code, we went from start to 100% of the test suite passing on all platforms in 11 days.

This is impressive from a technological standpoint, but it does gloss over the fact that it would have cost $165k in tokens were Bun not part of Anthropic.

The comparison here isn’t completely fair - it would take a small team a year to port it if they spent $0 extra on it.

I’d be interested to see a comparison between spending $165k in 11 days on Claude vs splitting that between 50 people over 11 days for a line-by-line rewrite of the Zig code. I suspect Claude might be faster and therefore cheaper, but maybe not by a lot.

The article focused on image editing but it’s happening on the video side too.

The free version of DaVinci Resolve is extremely capable and the Studio upgrade is a very reasonable one-time purchase. I really don’t know how Blackmagic makes money from it - it may be the case that they’re subsidizing it with hardware purchases.

Waiting for the market to be less insane is somewhat akin to waiting for the s&p500 to drop a decent amount so you can buy in.

I said less insane, not sane. If prices go down 20% but are still up 150% over a few years ago, that would still be an improvement from now.

Or it could work the other way: if new hardware comes out in 2027 such that the tokens/$ ratio works out better, that would also be less insane.

A Mac Studio is a much better buy in terms of memory bandwidth, but impossible to buy in a 128 GB configuration. Honestly there aren’t great options right now and it’s probably better to wait for the market to be less insane.

What an absolutely terrifying situation for that woman. It reminded me of a story from the UK where a police officer pulled over a woman, arrested her (for no reason) and raped and murdered her. I don’t know what you’re supposed to do in that situation because the law says you’re supposed to submit to police officers, not resist arrest, etc.

I think the people who do this fall into two categories:

1. The genuinely naive. This is new technology and the social expectations haven’t been figured out yet. Some people still think this is helpful / useful.

2. People who don’t care as long as they generate traffic to their site. AI-written articles are the new zero-effort promotion and SEO strategy.

Base UI is more low-level, a lot less opinionated and doesn’t force you into certain layouts. This of course makes it more complex to use, but that doesn’t matter if you’re using shadcn components because they’re doing that work for you.

So essentially they look and operate the same as Radix components at the shadcn level but you have low-level control later on should you need it.
