A common practice is to train a transformer model to control a given robot model in simulation by first teleoperating the simulated model with some controller (keyboard, joystick, etc.) to complete the task and create a dataset, and then setting up the simulator to permute the environment variables such as frictions, textures, etc (domain randomization) and run many epochs at faster than real time until a final policy converges. If the right things were randomized and your demonstration examples provided enough variation of information, it should generalize well to the actual hardware.

I'm in my 30's now. I did the same exact thing, with the same completely whacked out sleep schedule, when I was transitioning 18-19. I spent thousands of hours on Oblivion. My parents did not get on my case about it. They did occasionally say "don't be late for X," or "you're going to miss Y," but they never blew it out of proportion to what it actually was, which was "just a phase" for me. I had very bad grades at this time, and gaming was a way to cope an escape; not the cause of it. My advice is to give him some space and let it play out. If he's going to fail something, let him fail and learn. Let him have a bad semester. He will bounce back. Perhaps this is unavoidable at this point.

What are your thoughts about the "two tier system" others are mentioning? I haven't heard of that before, but it seems like doing prosecution is not desirable? Some law firms offer to pay for your law school, so it doesn't seem bad doing prosecution while you attend law school, but I have no idea. The opportunity I was proposed is in patent prosecution, but it seems people transition into something else quite frequently.

I really haven't experienced this sentiment. It sounds like you had a bad experience. Scrum can be amazing depending on who is implementing it. Even 7 years ago at AWS, micromanagement wasn't and couldn't afford to be a thing, yet we were most definitely a Scrum team. It was what held us together despite the lack of management. Yeah there would be arguments between PMs and devs, but that is healthy, and most often the PMs lost said arguments. Everyone was placed adjacent to one another, and I adjacent to the project manager, which gave ample time for arguments, but in a way that was better for the team as a whole. It introduced a sort of democracy with continual meetings to ensure that we were working efficiently at any given time.

Id love to know how you got your first clients. After being at AWS for about 3 years, I have been working in humanoid robotics in Japan for another 3 years and am really eager to do something on my own and get out of the Japanese work-life balance nightmare. Any advice is appreciated.

Not necessarily. It usually means more transistors were fit onto the board in order to increase computation, which usually increases power consumption. But improvements can come from several means, such as a new type of transistor, fabrication method, material, etc that could reduce power consumption.

If you love math, read the books that interest you most, and read about math used within the context of your interests. You will get much more out of that than reading books that others told you about. And you will also stick to it and turn it into something you enjoy rather than feeling guilty for not reading enough about math in a context you cant strongly relate to or be attracted to. It depends on the type of plasmid I believe. Bacteria cells will share certain plasmids with one another; this is how they learn quickly and spread resistance information. Some plasmids are even shared with different cell types such as yeast. I'm curious if they have thought about how to control how the 'software' will spread.
