I manage advertising spend for a small technology company. We spend in the 10's of thousands per month on Google and Facebook.

We can measure customer acquisition cost and we do using normal tools like Google Analytics.

We've had days where we pause our campaigns, and we get fewer new customers that day. We've had platforms pause for a period of time because of some issue, and we get fewer new customers over that period of time.

It's one data point. I'm aware of plenty of other companies with similar results to what we see.

Possible G and FB have gotten faster and better with their detection of health specific ads, but up until about a year ago, one temporary workaround (while waiting for legitscripts) was to create an Instapage or Leadpages landing page with a subdomain (eg. lp.meetophelia.com) and direct ads there.

I use SoundCloud daily for music I can't find anywhere else. I'm amazed they haven't tried harder to make people like me pay for the service. I would pay if I hit a paywall at some point of usage.

This is exciting for healthcare use-cases. Simple stuff like video clinician checkups or remote monitoring such as tracking and recording physical therapy progress.

How do you deal with bike rebalancing?

Yeah we've hired a consultant. The stuff that has been most frustrating is very domain specific.

For our product category (sleep apnea diagnosis) the FDA has an unwritten rule that all devices must run a clinical study compared to existing tools.

The hard part has been extracting the exact details that would make an acceptable study in their eyes (testing environments, statistical methods...)

Also it seems like the testing standards have evolved over time and this isn't documented either. Only way we've been able to learn the standards is by giving the FDA a proposal and getting feedback on it.

We've gotten a few FOIA'ed 510ks of similar devices. Unfortunately they are 90% redacted and not very helpful.

Looking back on it, it may have been worth it to seek out a person who had gone through this exact experience before. That could have saved some time/effort.

I've spent the last 6 months in FDA 510k world and as time goes on, I'm more and more convinced of the need for something like this.

The hardest part has been to clearly define what experiments we need to run on our product for the FDA to accept it. There is nothing inherently difficult about this, but the problem is the lack of available information and feedback cycles to get the information.

For example, the FDA has a feedback process called 'pre-submissions'. This is good, but the problem is the cycle to ask a question and get an answer is 3 months.

I'm happy that there is a growing group of entrepreneurs working within the regulatory system. Hoping to see more tools soon.

I believe the "farebox recovery ratio" of Muni in San Francisco is ~20%. Which means, the actual cost of a bus ride is $11.25 ($2.25/0.2). So, the government is paying $9 subsidy for each rider.

Looking at how municipalities subsidized dial-a-ride, are any subsidizing ride-sharing (uber, lyft) systems? Many uber/lyft rides inside of SF are cheaper than the cost of a muni trip.

At first thought, this is very refreshing.

I know many founders who would love to build a sustainable business that does something useful and not have to continually spin a tail of "being the next IPO".

Seems pretty likely this (and other pushes like it) will create that kind of disruption.
