I agree with this. I think its a great way to understand how those new concepts and ideas work in two different universes. Its helped me separate and understand how core ideas and concepts work and how they can work different.

+1 all these replies. As a designer first, I taught myself to code, Just as I taught myself how print medium works. These details are integral to the end product.

A web designer that doesn't understand code != a web designer.

I think Photoshop should be replaced with Illustrator. for the initial design phases. 1) You can do wireframes in Illustrator, then build directly on top of that for design. 2) Multiple artboards lets you layout multiple screen sizes/breakpoints. 3) Resizing elements and keeping crisp edges is much faster.

I used to have a commute like this and thought it was going to be such a time waste. Then i realized it was good me time.

great time for reading and also note taking. Look into your options on your phone or tablet and really pimp them out with consumption as well as productivity.

For note you may want to write your own little app, evernote will open by the time the commutes over.

The one thing the web has going for it is anyone can really make a webpage and essentially do whatever they like within the parameters of html, css, jscript etc. That's a pretty wide open nert (pun intended).

I can definitely see semi walled gardens going up as communities and user services. The benefits can be a greater more controlled user experience.

But even that said, web technologies are evolving and the web as a mobile option is still a bit in its infancy (aka you can still get a lot of web pages that look terrible)

Real Talk, when infinite scrolling is bad:

1)When it moves your page location up when loading more.

2)When it loses your location because you clicked on a link.
