And the parents that are worried about their children getting fucked up by hardcore porn and social media.

Rarely brought up during the OSA debate, but I think we all know every UK ISP has "Safety Shield" on to block access to adult entertainment - by default. When purchasing the service you're asked if you want it disabled.

If parents are disabling it, they can't be that worried.

I got it installed last weekend, really powerful mobile OS.

I did do about three weeks of research, as I worried that maybe a number of apps wouldn't run on it or needed some form of deep attestation. Didn't find much, OpsGenie and other work apps are happy with the GOS level of attestation provided.

Great to have Google kicked off the phone. So nice to shut off the network permission for any apps that only require an internet connection to serve ads.

One tip from me, if you came from stock Pixel: You can download the default Pixel sounds and set them up like it was. Have a look for "Your New Adventure" online, the message sound is "Eureka".

Got DDG set as the default search engine in Firefox.

Saw the error, immediately typed "duckduckgo status" into the address bar and searched - in DDG.

Not my smartest moment.

I use fish with the sponge plugin that omits any command that doesn't return an error code 0. Combined with ones like `z` to jump around directories, I reckon my history is pretty tidy.

Anything important and convoluted, I'll shove it in the fish config for quick access.

I thought we were making progress in the anti-surveillance privacy na[rra]tive

What lead to to believe that? The Conservatives and Conservative-Continuity governments both agree that our data simply must be in the hands of the police, DEFRA, and your local council.

RIPA will never be repealed and only strengthened.

They just post inane one line comments in response to the article headline. They often have some corny joke or something like that, but it's never anything more than two sentences, and those sentences never, ever say anything insightful or even controversial - it's just an incredibly surface level and uncontroversial reaction to the headline.

I haven't used Reddit in years, but this was Reddit pre-LLMs.

There's also the case in the video (0:59) where the player jumps into the poison but doesn't take damage for a few seconds then takes two doses back-to-back - they should've taken a hit of damage every ~500-1000ms(?)

Guessing the model hasn't been taught enough about that, because most people don't jump into hazards.

are you implicitly speaking to the subset of HN with experience broad and deep enough to already have the skillset represented by this stack?

That's the one. To follow the above, knowledge of a public cloud (take your pick) and installing software are going to be needed.

Not enough people realise you can spin up a cheap Hetzner instance, install Navidrome and use that as very functional Spotify-like experience. Bring in your music you've got on a USB, Bandcamp and others in one place.

Then you get to pick a player that works best for you, I use Feishin which you'll find familiar if you're a Spotify user.

I know I'm pulling a Dropbox with "just spin up Navidrome" but if you've got an afternoon to get it going, you can save yourself a lot of cash with price hikes to pay for AI DJs.

This was my last job, anyone in this position for any longer than necessary should be looking for another role. You're on a path to burnout or apathy, either way.

I called it "Monster of the Week", as I was watching a lot of X-Files at the time. Still like that term for it.

Do you think Navidrome works good?

Yeah, for the most part, few things I wouldn't have done but you're getting Navidrome as a Subsonic-compatible server.

That lets you play your stuff from very good clients like Feishin, rather than the web client.

Are there any Android app for offline plays, for the car?

Don't know about Android, have a search for "subsonic" on the Play Store / F-Droid, and you'll definitely find something.

I have "AV Sub" on iOS, and that integrates with CarPlay.

I used to be a user of Wayland but since Firefox defaulted to it and I found that Picture-in-Picture doesn't work, I've since dropped back to X.

DuckDucking it, I couldn't find a solution, but I hope someone can tell me there is.

Outside of things like this (and finding the right screen recording program) I didn't really notice a difference.

Reality: It’s fine, I’ll finish the work on Saturday.

At no point have I ever worked outside of contracted hours, and at no point will I ever do so. Sorry, no, once I did and it lead to me leaving the job..!

And it's harmfully perpetuating the idea that you're expected to do so when you're not paid for the labour.
