Same. This film made me believe that it was possible to be cool and find a social group that were all in to tech. I grew up in a really rural area so this revelation of possibility, whether actually practical or not, heavily influenced my trajectory in life and in tech. It’s still one of my most sentimentally favorite movies of all time.

I have a hard time disabling ad block on sites of this ilk due to their tendency to inject malware into their JS to prey on the unsavvy. I don’t trust that if I enable JS I won get hit with an aggressive malware / zeroday.

The main cause is the proliferation of social media. There's other factors of course, and I'm not dismissing any of the depth of nuance of all the externalities acting on that generation, but it's undoubtedly the thing that our societies and social structures aren't designed for: facebook and instagram.

Did they control for industry? When looking at something like revenue you so much of your outcomes at early stages are functions of externalities as much as they are from how you organize and operate. Did they control for business model? This sample just seems super unrepresentative and cherry picked for an outcome.
