Besides fixing bad C code: how many of those packages are still properly maintained? The Ruby ones don't seem to be. Fedora and other distros likely have to build their packages with patches.

It's weird because even the first C standard was influenced by C++: function prototypes and const.

C actually didn't have unsigned integer types in the beginning. They were added many years later and also not at the same time. For example, the Unix V7 C compiler only had "unsigned int".

Fortunately, in the amd64 Windows world, there's only one calling convention.

That's unnecessary. But then again I can't really blame them. It isn't always clear when you have to do that. Also a previous version might have used strlen() instead of sizeof.

That's not true. Hexadecimals integer constants without suffix may have a signed type but they also may have an unsigned one. For example, 0x81000000 usually has type unsigned int.

What is broken? Have you reported it? I've reported a related bug this week (File.truncate called CreateFileA() with a UTF-8 string). I even had a working patch but forgot to attach it. Anyway it was almost immediately fixed including various additional tests for other File class methods (which handled Unicode without any problems).

Since VS2013 some useful and popular C99 language features are supported. And then there's Clang/C2 but it can't be used via command-line yet.

Their standard library (besides being intentionally not fully compliant) is missing some C11 features though. I guess we have to wait at least for C++17:
