Any way to get the dark/terminal theme on Basic HTML? I am not getting any theme option in Settings. I used to have the Terminal theme for years before the new GMail.
Standard Gmail does allow for a dark background, would like that in Basic HTML.

How do you progress beyond testing out "alert" on your console? I've tried this on both Firefox and Safari on Mac OS and I don't get anything beyond checking out the console. ???
Linus Torvalds used/uses micro-emacs.
(off topic, he used/uses Pine/alpine for email).
I have been using gishpuppy for several years. It actually works. It's a free service, you create an email for any website that asks for one. There are addons/extension for firefox and perhaps other browsers, too.
Tried it out. I keep `scp`ing a file, or editing it using `vim scp`, but on browsing or publishing, I get an "Article does not exist".
Could you please explain why this is the greatest? Or how it compares to the other youtube downloaders?
Does it allow selection of resolution ? Does it allow downloading only audio ?
Thanks.
I moved from OMZ to Prezto for this reason (its a fork of oh my). But prezto is slow too.
The only recourse I think is to go back to a clean zsh and build your own .zshrc. There are other leaner zsh "frameworks"[1] I have read of, but i intend going back to stock zsh soon.
1) - see zshuery and zsh-m on github.
Your line about only one mirror. The other mirror is optional. I bought a Maruti about fifteen years back when i returned from the US. Was shocked that there was no second mirror.
Seems no one here uses the second mirror so it is an added cost. When I asked them about "blind-spot" they were puzzled. No one here has heard of it.
I think some of the other points are just for fun. The two showers in a bathroom, and the shower facing the pot. I've never seen such. Must be a rare case. Or someone hastily put together a bathroom so he could rent a place :).
Actually, I am surprised you did not mention anything about there being no water considering there are severe water shortages in summer. Then there are lanes on the road, but no one does "lane driving". "One Way" and "No Entry" are quite a joke. Signs in English but very few people can read (in Delhi).
I use vifm off and on for moving files from one dir to another. (IIRC there were some issues with the latest version on OSX, perhaps sourceforge does not have the latest, and brew picks from there).
Another alternative I use a lot is `cetus` (a ruby project). https://github.com/rkumar/cetus
1. Yes, I meditate. As of now I don't do sitting eyes-closed meditations regularly (I should). I keep up the state of not-attaching to thought, of remaining in "presence" (also called the I-am or Being). Once you get it, you will recognize what I mean.
2. Meditation has side benefits of helping with concentration problems, sleep issues, maybe even some psychological issues (there's a lot on it if you google 'meditation and neuro-science').
However, the original and main purpose of meditation was what is called "liberation" or awakening or enlightenment. Along the way, the grip of the fictional mind-created entity called the "self" or "me" weakens and at some stage just collapses. In a few cases this happens suddenly with no practice (e.g. Eckhart Tolle, Sri Ramana Maharshi). What happens further you will just have to experience yourself but this much I can say: as the false self or "ego" weakens and loses control, suffering also reduces and a time comes when you know that mental suffering is over for you.
There is far too much material on this. You can spend a whole life just reading (and as a result yourself get nowhere). Everyone will have their favorite books or resources or people. I would recommend Power of Now by Tolle as a very accessible book. There is also Sri Nisargadatta (I am That, and many other works, available on the internet freely in text/pdf form).
Most threads on HN recommend mindfulness and give you links to documents for that. Mindfulness puts the attention on the body and thus takes it away from the mental process. The references I gave (similarly) take the attention away from mind to what is present or aware (without going to the body). So these approaches still have a lot in common.
Whichever route you take, it is important to start practicing (stilling the mind) asap, and not get caught in the reading trap.
What would happen if we encountered very advanced beings from another world ? How would we determine whether they were robots or really living/conscious. They would talk, they might say they are alive.
They may have metallic bodies, is there anything to say that conscious beings cannot.
`z` is good. `autojmp` is similar. Also try `cetus` ( `gem install cetus`) and `zfm` (written in zsh, https://github.com/rkumar/zfm).
We all have many horror stories but still I hesitate to change. All these ISP's are cheats who make glowing promises but don't deliver. I remember how I was being charged daily for some service I never used and never subscribed to. This went on for years and I wondered how my balance was depleting even when I hardly use the phone.
Finally, one day i began getting SMS's that I was being re-subscribed to some Hindi tunes or poetry. When i called up I was told they had been charging me a rupee a day for 2 years for this service.
Funny thing is that even if I had subscribed, I never got anything. So they charged me everyday for something they were supposed to send me, but never sent me.
They do the same thing on the internet, where they promise you some bandwidth (speed) but never deliver. After the allotted 10 GB my speed is supposed to half. But it comes down to a crawl. After i touch 80% of my bandwidth, every time I open a URL i am taken to airtel's page to buy more bandwidth. This goes on an on. (To be fair , this harassment has reduced recently, but they cheat you on bandwidth to get you to go to a higher scheme).
I use a command line program bugzyrb for personal projects. https://github.com/rkumar/bugzyrb
You could also try taskwarrior.
Nice article about perl and its history, and Rakudo, but still doesn't explain why author loves perl.
So when I create a new branch, do stuff and want to merge back to master, I should rebase instead ? (assuming nothing else was done such as pushing elsewhere etc).
Vim in the terminal (along with tmux). Been using vim since about 1980. Favorite language currently is ruby, earlier it was C.
kat.ph has a guy called Gandalf, german composer, instrumental easy listening, really good for coding with.
I have it slightly worse than the OP. I don't drink, smoke or eat non-vegetarian food. Which basically means no partying and almost no socializing beyond saying hello.
Which also means I have a lot more time to do the things I really want to do. My parents drink, by the way, and I've seen their behavior after a couple. No way I'd go down that lane.
Looks interesting. - How about programs that are using other gems. What is the coverage of the standard libraries? - Does it over enough to write command line programs using fileutils, File, Dir, IO ? - Are there samples of some large programs that compile ? - Any benchmarks of performance ?
The page says:

If it's experimental are there any risks ?
This is precisely what I came in to post. I've heard people in India talking of cleaning their toilets with Coke better than pesticides -- don't know about cost since I don't drink.
vifm is good. If you like vim movements, you can try zfm (its written in shell - https://github.com/rkumar/zfm), and if you like the default hint mode, try 'cetus' -- on the same git repo).
After using vim movements in a file manager, my finding was that pressing 10j or 5gg etc to go to a file is a slow cumbersome way to move around, when you usually just want to open a file/page it or run an action on it. That's why using hints (as in vimperator) or shortcuts for each file is a much faster way of navigating. Just jump with one keystroke.
Similarly it's cool to have vim bindings like "dG" or "d3gg" etc in your file manager (vimfm and zfm have it) but these are not really features that make a difference. It's the speed of getting 90% of your workflow done, and shortcuts/hints are what get that done fastest.
I found ranger slow. I use cetus (its fast and you can select files with a hotkey (https://github.com/rkumar/cetus). There's also a shell version which has a lot more functionality and even a vim mode (since some people here are asking for vim like behavior: https://github.com/rkumar/zfm)
Ruby has several frameworks you can use such as vision-commander, main, and thor just to name a few. Boson, too.
You must look at the highline gem too. Here's a small CLI app you can try.. https://github.com/rkumar/cetus
Why are people going to be unhappy? Users or creators ?
Will gem creation time significantly increase ? Will gem install time significantly increase ?
Do other languages such as python, perl or lua etc have a signing facility ?
So how do we sign our gems ?
Recommend reading zsh-lovers (http://grml.org/zsh/zsh-lovers.html).
Also check the zsh reference card on the sourceforge website. Learn the various techniques of globbing on the command line.
For zsh-lovers to make sense, you have to also refer to the zsh reference card (zsh sourceforge.net site) as well as the User Manual by Peter Stephenson (pws).
http://zsh.sourceforge.net/Guide/zshguide.html
http://zsh.sourceforge.net/Doc/Release/zsh_toc.html
I have found the zsh-users mailing list to be a great place to get the best and quickest answers. The folks who maintain zsh such as pws and others who have been there for over 12 years (such as Bart Schaffer), answer questions.
