I started playing tennis and I loved it. It's non-contact, you have to be thinking all the time and it's outside (often in the sun). I am happy when I play (or even watch) tennis.

Then (warning, plug ahead) I started a D3.js project (to keep skills fresh) to visualize data about tennis strings and rackets[1] to understand them better, ...

... which devolved in keeping my rackets/strings on that same app, which later open to others ...

... which devolved in starting a flex tennis league in my region (SF Bay Area)[2], ...

... which devolved into starting a small business to automate tedious and time consuming tasks at small racket-sport shops (and maybe others in the future)[3].

I'm so happy with projects that get a life of their own!

Watching comedy and writing comedy also makes me happy.

Microsoft did the same thing way back with CPUID .. when it was Intel, it worked well. Otherwise (AMD, Transmeta), they would use very inefficient operations instead of SSE (IIRC), slowing down benchmarks that used media (like players, etc) and Photoshop. This is from a distant life in the past, but I think it was not limited to use of SSE.

Yes, I probably missed the notifications somehow.

They probably should have had some warning on the app itself when putting or sharing files from that folder.

It's a free service, so my bad for using it without a good backup, but I had used programs for a long long time that produce screenshots with one keystroke and copy the URL to the clipboard, saving time.

I figured this was relatively low overhead for them and a popular feature, so they would keep it. Lesson learned ..

I relied on this "light" publishing for a few things and I'm quite pissed off. I did not notice any notification on this.

To me, this should be done very very visibly and with tons of warnings. I used it to communicate screenshots with details, etc. Now all links are broken and I'm SOL with no viable solution to changing those links from documents, bugs, etc., etc.

Looks like a "Sinatra replacement" of sorts.

I will try it to have a feel for it. Sinatra works well for me, though it can be confusing in parsing parameters, etc.

Maybe that is part of some other gem that helps with that here, since it's so minimal.

I built a site to run tennis leagues. We have started in the bay area with 210+ matches taken place since February when it launched. Most other sites that try to do this look like they are built in the 90s and have little support for modern features like communicating via Whatsapp or decent mobile support. It could also be extended to other (racket) sports later. People pay a $20 fee for each league, which is about 8 matches in 8 to 10 weeks. http://www.racketlogger.com

The goal is to scale it across the US (and beyond, to any english-speaking area). Doing cost-effective marketing is key. How do we get the word out? How do we improve the site and experience so much that players tell their friends?

We put effort in SEO building a large database (the largest?) of string and racket specs with the goal of attracting some of the core fans of the sport (we started to get some clicks a day). There are a ton of other "social" and related ideas, the question is how to select which one(s) will work best.

Great little app. I would go a little further -- let the app also take pics (with the GPS on), or simply remember places with tags on the spot. e.g. tag and say "parked car".

I sometimes do not leave the location on, however, I would still like the functionality of the app.

One can build a http2/SPDY demo fairly easily these days. I co-wrote a SPDY library[0] that has been used in production for streaming video across the interweb to mobile devices to great success.

There is a simple server created with the library in a few lines. Try it out.

The library was built "the Go way" with the idea to support http2 as soon as it was final and we're looking to do that soon!
