The high price was due to COVID and everyone being stuck inside. That’s over now and has been for some time.

Excellent! I’m sure that Saudi Arabian prince (who the media and its followers have been citing ad nauseum for some strange reason as to why Twitter shouldn’t accept the offer) will be very happy now. Because, you know. A Saudi Arabian prince is who we should be listening to when it comes to American policies, companies, and institutions.
Many of the silliest progressive ideas are being / have been normalized thanks to Big Tech and the establishment doing one or more of three things:
1) actively censoring people who speak out against them
2) preventing discussions from happening in the first place (comments disabled, dislikes hidden)
3) actively promoting the ideal progressive version of the idea to cut down on dissent
Take the pronouns thing. Every other Instagram account of a female has her official pronouns (which you may only choose from a list of officially allowed ones so as to cut down on dissent via things like “your majesty / his highness”) set to she/her. I’m sorry but we all know you’re a woman. Why are you putting your pronouns up? The idea is a preposterous one; don’t even get anyone started on the they/them abomination.
And yet dissent and mockery of this abject stupidity is largely censored. As a result it’s bleeding out into the real world.
I hang in very progressive social circles. Trust me when I tell you, you do not want this reality. Their lives are defined by their progressive causes and perceived slights and micro aggressions. Every introduction “must” involve your pronouns and if you “forget” them they will innocently ask you of them. As a result people are bumbling pronouns all the time, I cannot tell you how many times even the pronoun experts start to say “she” or “he” in casual conversation referring to someone but then panic and stutter and say “they” because they can’t quite remember what pronoun this particular person wants to go by today or if they’re a they/them who despises people who feel like they should be able to speak freely without knowing they’re very, very special and are too special to go by a binary pronoun.
Mockery is the best defense against stupidity. Which is why it’s under such a big threat. And it’s why Elon is taking over Twitter.
It’s so strange. At first it was intriguing since I had never heard of it before, but now given how often it’s brought up, I suspect some sort of forced Streisand effect deal is at play from all the people who don’t like Elon or are using it as a speculative argument of how he’s ackshually not technically free speech because clearly he spent billions just to take that account down.
Why does everyone think Elon Musk wants zero moderation? He always talks about free speech, not zero moderation. There’s an important difference.
It wasn’t given scrutiny. It was silenced. And, turns out it wasn’t misinformation either.
Thank God with Musk’s new Twitter we won’t have to have this sort of discussion anymore anyway, people won’t be able to just shout Russian disinformation at anything that makes the left look bad and have Big Tech scramble to do their bidding to help influence elections.
Similarly, when someone wants to take the opposite stance of a well reasoned stance for reasons unrelated to the stance itself (feelings, etc.), I tend to want to take the stance of the original to counter the person taking the opposite stance. I'm going to start staying GIF (like JIF) again.
This desperate “it’s Russia’s fault!” angle being pushed by the establishment right now is not convincing anyone with more than two brain cells. We all saw and experienced the massive inflation and supply chain issues longggg before that war started and there’s mountains of data that shows that to be the case.
I would probably use Trump’s playbook during his administration as a guide since it resulted in low inflation, low gas prices, no supply chain issues, a Putin kept in check, etc. In contrast, the current President definitely appears to be finding leadership harder than he realized despite his 50 year career in politics.
Can someone fact check the “Putin price hike” angle or are all the debunkers on vacay this administration? I do recall months and months of extremely high inflation and gas prices $1.50/gal more than they were two years ago, prior to any “Russian interference” in our economy via the war in Ukraine. Is the media really going to let Biden get away with this? Because I don’t think anyone in the real world is really buying it.
Pretty sure the people who use terms like “differently abled”, “LatinX”, “they/them” etc., are the ones forcing their nitpicks on everyone else.
Sounds like we have a solution for “encouraging” Apple and other manufacturers to start making things in the USA again…
They have no authority or control over gas prices, supply chain issues, or autocrats invading other countries.
They may not have direct control... but nobody is arguing the President literally said "supply chain issues, start existing!" or failed to say "gas prices, you better not rise!" while waiving his finger.
Presidents absolutely have indirect control over all of those things though, and more.
tweeting nonsense that could damage the company/brand
Oh, I think Twitter has done enough to itself to damage the company/brand as it is. Most people in the real world think the site is an absolute joke.
Musk can only bring good things to Twitter, and as a result, the world. The era of corporate censorship (in favor of their favorite side, of course) may finally be coming to an end!
jesus christ is he immature
This seems to be the #1 complaint about him. Honestly, so what? Since when is Twitter serious business? To take it a step further... why does life have to always be serious business? There's plenty enough of that as it is.
I think it's telling that people are up in arms and furious that Elon Musk might... bring back a little free speech and equal moderation to Twitter? I mean the threat isn't that the left is going to be censored more, it's that the right will be censored less equivalent to how the left is currently "censored" there. And that's what people are scared of, evidently. Excellent ideas, apparently, require strict censorship and moderation to propagate.
One of the number one complaints about our last President was the same thing: "he's immature". So finally, we got a super mature President who's in office currently. Along with super high inflation, super high gas prices, supply chain issues, and a Putin who evidently thinks he can get away with anything now.
"Immature" isn't always a bad thing.
Looking at his term through the lense of sympathy rather than history gives a distorted picture.
In light of comparisons of the current President to him, the current meme seems to be to consider Carter “an actually very good, misunderstood President” in the hopes of neutering the insult.
For me, I try to avoid politics in general since I’m (along with everyone else) so inundated with it on a daily basis. It’s so wonderful and refreshing to find places where it doesn’t exist and isn’t mentioned. No matter how much bad is going on in the world we all need to be able to mentally escape it. It’s just one of those vital things.
So when you go to download the newest version of one of your fav text editors and you’re faced with messages like “you guys support who I support in the war right?! You should because the other guy is crazy! I stand with this side, I’m literally changing the world!” and I just gotta sigh and roll my eyes. Sir this is an Arby’s.
Hey Elon, when you're done fixing Twitter, please buy 10% of Google next, thanks.
Elon bought shares before it was announced he bought shares.
This a mixture of the state of the country Obama left him with and things that presidents and their admin don't have much influence over.
So first it was "Trump is going to destroy the economy!" but now it's "actually he had nothing to do with it, everything was just magically great despite all the bad things he did to try to destroy it", interesting.
Do you actually think Biden increased gas prices as if the effects of the pandemic and war (that trump likely helped cause by his deference to putin and hostility towards nato) aren't the actual causes?
I think Biden's major hostility towards oil, his poor economic policies, and his poor handling of the pandemic (under Biden we had far more deaths than under Trump during the same time period) resulted in much higher prices (which were already $1-1.50/gallon higher than under Trump prior to the war) as well as Putin realizing he had nothing to fear from Biden, resulting in him invading Ukraine. Do you think gas prices were just magically cheaper under Trump because he asked nicely?
Trump threw out the pandemic playbook.
And it's looking more and more that he was right all along, given the facts on the ground showing that the majority of deaths and serious illnesses were of people over 65 and obese; the effects it's had on the economy; the effects it's had on younger generations; suicide rates; etc. Can't wait to see all of the other long term studies that show how disastrous our overreaction to everything ended up being overall.
Let's not forget Trump gave us a vaccine in record time as well - a vaccine that Joe Biden spread FUD about until after the election was over.
Trump and the GOP's raised taxes on a substantial number of middle class and lower income people. Some of it was immediately and some of those increases were left as timebombs.
Most people saw lower taxes. I'm not going to claim Trump didn't have a fairly shit Congress during his administration, which is why it's great he's backing more anti-neocons for the upcoming midterms.
But that statement on how "good" trump's admin suggests extremely rose colored glasses on what actually went on.
At the end of the day the only bad thing about the Trump admin was the mean tweets. Quality of life was far higher under him than recent past presidents, as well as our current president. We replaced him with a politically correct political veteran and we got all of... this. Simple as.
Not defending Ivermectin, but what do people have against trying alternative therapeutics for COVID?
You have to look at everything surrounding COVID in context. The most important context was that prior to COVID, Trump was obviously going to be re-elected. None of the world-ending catastrophes that everyone said would happen under him, did, in fact we got a lot of good out of his administration. The economy was great, taxes were low, gas prices were low, etc.
But then COVID happened, and finally, the opposition saw their opening. If they had any hope of Trump losing reelection, this was their only chance, and so every single day they did whatever they could to blame everything on Trump and only Trump, and did whatever they could to come to the defense of any organization or entity that Trump assigned blame to (WHO, China, etc.), and they also did whatever they could to trash anything that looked like it might help reduce the effects of the pandemic prior to the election.
People on a particular side of the aisle were "TERRIFIED" that the vaccine would be released before the election.
You'll recall, for example, that many of the people and organizations that shame everyone as "anti-vaxxers" for being wary of the vaccine, did that very same thing just prior to the election, spreading FUD (including Biden himself):
https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/01/health/eua-coronavirus-vaccin...
Ivermectin, a life-saving drug WHO-listed essential drug (found ineffective for most for COVID) that has a side-effect profile close to that of the antibiotics we as a country receive so many prescriptions of like candy, was referred to as "horse paste", and do you know why some idiots were resorting to getting the animal kind instead of the human kind? Because the media and the establishment treated this relatively harmless drug as something evil and so people who are inclined to believe everything is a conspiracy, had that further reinforced in their minds, so they did whatever they could to seek something that the establishment was actively trying to keep from them.
Considering the steaming pile that Twitter is, I think only good things are on the way for the platform.
In fairness, the evil media is pretty picky and choosy on what it wants to make damn sure you know and think, and what it hopes you don’t know and think. Hence the term.
Not sure it necessarily applies in this case though.
You are 100% correct in your statement, and even women themselves know this and admit it... and like it. Some may be more shy to admit it, but they all do - especially behind closed doors. Even the most feminist, Bernie-voting women I know.
The only problem with your statement is it goes against what our feminist, matriarchal schooling system and media have been shoving in our faces for the past several decades, so we've been conditioned just as they want us to be: to react as if the world is coming to an end because someone said something that makes females not look like strong, independent perfect, women who don't need no man (because men are evil, in so many words).
What's wrong with women being more submissive and less independent? If everyone were the same the world would be a better place. Man needs woman, woman needs man...hence why we're all here today. Men have their own flaws we're more than happy to own up to. And those flaws, like women's innate flaws, are so great because it allows men and women to serve even more of a purpose for each other and make each other complete.
FWIW I'm not the person claiming that, the person I'm responding to is.
It included the phrase "Women only want to look good and receive complements" if that gives you enough context?
Are you a male or a female? I have heard multiple women (friends, girlfriends, acquaintances) literally admit this. There is also a multitude of evidence that exists showing that the “theory” is not shocking in the slightest.
These women I speak of don’t consider it a bad thing. Why should you, a (presumably) male consider it that way on their behalf? Or anti-scientifically argue against truths that are too shocking for you to handle?
Yes but gay marriage has been legal for a while, and so now we see the invention of new things to be offended about, like they/them pronouns, and pretending that we don't actually know the definition of a man or a woman or that all that makes a man or a woman is which one they'd like to "present" as that day.
I do recall one of the arguments against gay marriage being that once gay marriage was allowed, they'd move to something else. "They literally just want to get married" was the common retort to that argument, but lo and behold, it is becoming clearer day by day that the "give them an inch" slippery slope argument may have applied here. (I support gay marriage, FWIW.)
Regardless, everyone has been discriminated against at some point in their lives, but evidently, certain groups handle it differently than others.
I assumed his post must’ve been genuinely awful, based on how dramatic your response is, but it’s been flagged so I can’t see it. I did see a quote below from it which makes it seem pretty harmless and now my gut is that your post is probably more “shocking” than his was…
What’s with the current trend amongst certain members of society of using such extremely dramatic words to describe things that… aren’t actually that bad? It feels like a tabloid or something. “Shocking. Horrific. Abhorrent. Reprehensible.” (Like, unless you’ve been on the internet for a day, you really actually thought it was “shocking”?)
I’m seeing this everywhere now and it’s kind of annoying. It’s like you don’t have much of an argument, and you realize they probably have a point, but you want to silence the opposition, so you downvote, flag, and then write something super melodramatic as an attempt to scare others away from daring to have a similar opinion.
Pro-tip: you are likely reinforcing and bringing more people to the cause you so histrionically oppose.
Or, at least, perceived discrimination via an ever present victim mentality.
