using microsoft authenticator I just ran into this recently and searched to find it's a known issue that microsoft has no announced plan of fixing. Strange to see it pop up here separately, I guess it's becoming more common. I knew to cancel the dialogue and manually add the account without the QR code to workaround it but I'm sure plenty of people will have their accounts locked because of this

Months ago this app was randomly removed from every windows 10+ machine. Many people lost video projects that they were working on with no warning or explanation. When searching for a replacement microsoft would redirect to something called ClipChamp. This new app is no replacement unfortunately, it cannot import the old projects from the video editor and it is filled with dark patterns trying to get the user to sign up for a paid subscription. Anecdotally it is much less intuitive to use and offers no customization for where to save the videos. Please follow the arcane instructions in the link to restore the old application and automatically import any old projects that were saved on the harddrives of you or your family's computers.

Found it interesting that I couldn't find results for Knuth (The Art of Computer Programming) or SICP on here. Maybe the casual way we refer to these texts is hard to detect as a reference to a book, or their importance is just implied community knowledge?

It seems a lot of people don't know about the jump in quality between the headsets that came out. The original oculus was leapfrogged fairly quickly by the HTC Vive, and then that was eventually superseded by later headsets like the pimax, Valve Index, and Quest. If you haven't tried any of them I definitely recommend testing one out, the difference is very noticeable.

Not only watching videos but even reading text is much easier in the latest headsets. Unfortunately many people have only tried the older or commodity VR solutions and think that's the limit of the technology. This is largely due to the price and physical setup required for some of the better headsets, but already there are some great setups out there.

You can use the Shortcuts app to make a custom shortcut that permanently turns off both wifi and bluetooth, and then add that shortcut to your news/leftswipe menu to reduce the number of swipes/taps to get to it

Always thought this should've been open sourced as soon as google acquired it. The mechanic was copied in other VR games and it would've been a good reference/learning point for other VR devs. It seemed odd for google to charge for something like this when it could've been used to share and inspire new ideas. Glad they got around to it.

Death Stranding was my game of the year last year, I played it without knowing anything going in and had a great time. I've seen a bunch of people say they were turned off by the reviews and then ended up loving it when they finally tried it themselves.

While you're mostly correct, they do not automatically download every image, it only initiates the download when you go to read the email. So they're still letting the sender know when you read the email, but yes they are masking the IP by using their own servers to download it. This can still be disabled if you use the setting to not download images, which is frustratingly unavailable in the gmail for ios app.

This makes sense from the viewpoint that google is entirely beholden to their shareholders and has to maintain their insane growth. That doesn't make it ok.

It's a shame all these companies follow such a predictable pattern. Any resources to help actively ungoogle? I've switched search, email, and browser so far, and will be pushing everyone I know to avoid. Long time coming.

I won't use them after I tried one of their 'free delivery' codes and then the next time I went to place the same order it came out to the exact same price with delivery included, they seemed to have increased the price of the food to cover it the previous time.

I have this problem too, thankfully archive.org has been able to resurrect most of the text based sites I bookmarked ages ago. Such an invaluable resource.
