I think about this a lot. To control atoms and construct new systems using language and thoughtforms alone seems as close to magic as you can get.

Ubuntu with the i3 tiled window manager. You can make amazing and efficient use of the screen and the keyboard shortcuts are so smooth.
I was a few credits from getting my BFA in Graphic Design but I dropped out. After a couple years I got a job at a company doing retail arbitrage on ebay doing listing design. I saw how terribly inefficient their processes were and decided to teach myself Ruby. The whole company now works on the systems I've built and we did 3 million in revenue this year.

I recommend supporting Zclassic also ( http://Zclassic.org ) It's the same exact code as Zcash except there is no 20% "genius" tax for 4 years. It's the fair choice and even has the blessing of Zcash developer Zooko.
I sure hope someone releases a good public GPU miner in time for launch, otherwise the distribution is going to be quite unfair.
