I've been using Apple since 1995 on System 7.5 then through OSX to MacOS & iOS. MacOS/iOS/iPadOS 26 and Liquid Glass do not bother me one bit. I rather still enjoy using my devices running these operating systems and think that the interface is great. I also know i am not the only one.

IMHO the HP 15C RPN is the best calculator ever made. I still have the original with the slip case and manual. However, more often these days i just use my phone's calculator without RPN (i don't need to do a lot of complicated math for mechanical engineering -- we use tables for most stuff). I reached a point/decision several years ago to protect my HP 15C for posterity.

Just get a Steam Deck. it's an incredible value for what you get and for what it can do. I'm no expert, but I do pay as close attention as I can to what's going on with gaming hardware because of my limited budget, and I'm guessing Steam Deck 2 is more like Q1 2028, not any time sooner. I'm ok with that. I play all the games I want on my Steam Deck OLED, and I see plenty of life left in it, even this "late" in the game.

I used to understand/agree with this point, but over the past few years i've transitioned to my ipad pro for mobile usage and it has become my daily driver for mobile computing. When i need macos for anything, i typically will use Jump to connect and do something real quick, but that's rare. I'm starting to not understand why i wouldn't just want an ipad pro running a touch friendly (and i mean it would have to be VERY touch friendly) version of macos. again, i would have normally agreed with you, but that line is starting to blur for me...

Games are not a weakness for Apple. They have all the gaming revenue they seem to care about with mobile. They just don't have proper/immediate motivation to apply that effort to desktop. I'm not sure i even care anymore. I'm a valve fanboi at this point, until Gabe leaves and they go corporate.

I dropped my Game Pass sub immediately after they upped the sub price and unplugged my Xbox Series X. I have a Bazzite machine, but I've had issues with the NVidia drivers and not enough patience to deal with it. So i'm currently ONLY using my Steam Deck OLED for gaming. When i want to play big AAA games at my desk (SD in docked mode), i'll use GeForce Now and all of it has been a wonderful experience, even the online "competitive" FPS games like BF6. Much better than my experience on either Windows or Xbox. I'll never go back... and i'm impatiently waiting on my Steam Machine!

Came here to find this comment. It is NOT about matchmaking and/or "protecting the incomes" of competitive players AT ALL! It is solely about protecting these games' in-game shops and associated economies. The real comp scenes are all done on LAN anyway, with entirely different anti-cheat setups.

It's my daily driver. I have zero problems with it. I don't mind the Liquid Glass UX. I'm not blindly anti-Apple though, neither am I a fanboi. I've just legitimately not had any problems. There have been minor bugs, etc., but nothing broken. Definitely night and day from Win11....

And it most definitely does NOT look worse than previous Battlefields. OP has a problem with his setup.

I agree with you, and i would add that morals are not objective but rather subjective, which you alluded to by identifying a moral subject. Therefore, if you believe that lying is immoral, it does not matter if you're lying to another person, yourself, or to an inanimate object.

It does feel like it has to be real. I've noticed it since chatGPT with GPT-3.5, once it hit big news publicly and demands were made on "censoring" its output to limit biases, etc. (not inherently a problem to do this with LLMs as a society, but it does affect the output for obvious reasons). Whatever workflow OpenAI and others have applied, seems to be post-release somehow? i'm ignorant and just speculating, but literally every model release i've noticed it. Starts strong, ends up feeling less capable days, weeks, months after. I'm sure some of it could be in the parallelization of processing that has to occur to service the large amount of requests. and more and more traffic are spreading it thin?

It was sad to me watching that battle unfold. Maybe i was ignorant (and maybe i still am), but I learned most of what i know about web dev on Netscape sitting in a mac lab at university viewing source code. I HATED when IE started to takeover and eventually won that first battle. I miss Netscape :-(

Except many of us not having the problems you are having. I don't have LLMs "fail so spectacularly".

Interestingly, I have friends who aren't coders who use LLMs for various personal needs, and they run into the same kind of problems you are describing. 100% of the time, i've found that it's that they do not understand how to work with an LLM. Once i help them, they start getting better results. I do not have any need to anthropomorphize an LLM. I do however understand that I can use natural language to get quite complex and yes ACCURATE results from AI, IF i know what i'm doing and how to ask for it. It's just a tool, not a person.

I really don't understand the hallucination problem now in 2025. If you know what you're doing and you know what you need to get from the LLM and you can describe it well enough that it would be hard to screw up, LLMs are incredibly useful. They can nearly one shot an entire (edited here) skeleton architecture that I only need to nudge into the right place before adding what I want on top of it. Yes, i run into code from LLMs that i have to tweak, but it has been incredibly helpful for me. I haven't had hallucination problems in a couple of years now...

I've been following the progress of LLMs since the first public release of GPT-3.5, and every single time someone posts one of these tests i check the AIs i'm using to see if it's repeatable. It NEVER is. Granted, i'm not using the API, i'm using the chat interface with potentially different system prompting?

That is not how humans perform physical tasks though

is it not though? wouldn't it just be that our processing center isn't located completely in the skull as we typically think, but is extended to our spinal cord and nervous system? Something is being processed, you're just not conscious of the entire process. This is especially clear to me as a musician: as you're learning to play, you have to be absolutely aware of all of those processes until you can finally just let go and play!

If you truly believed major releases were every 2 years, then i apologize, but i thought my "objectionable commentary" was fairly light on the snark. It's quite trendy to hate on Apple, so i assumed you were one of those. I don't honestly care, but what i do care about is when people lie about things to try to make a point. It's been happening more often lately it seems and i quickly respond when i think i see it.

Apple purposely make it so after 3 new versions of the OS you cannot upgrade the OS on the hardware any further

As stated already, macOS 26 runs on the M1 and even the 2019 Macbook Pro. So i think i know where you got the "3 new versions" figure, and it's a dark and smelly place.

I'm using Geforce Now on my M1 Air and it's wonderful. Yeah, i'll play competitive multiplayer on dedicated hardware (primarily Xbox Series X because i refuse to own a Windows machine and i'm too lazy for Linux right now -- also, i'm hoping against hope for a real Steam console), but Geforce Now has been wonderful for other things, survival, crafting, MMO, single player RPGs, Cyberpunk, Battlefield, pretty much anything you can deal with a few milliseconds of input latency. To be honest, what they're doing here is wizardry to my dumb brain. The additional latency, to me, just feels like the amount of latency you will get from a controller on an Xbox. However, if you play something that requires very quick input (competitive FPS, for example) AND you're connected to servers through the game with anywhere from 5ms to 100ms+ latency (playing on EU servers, for example), that added latency just becomes too much. I'll say this though: I've played Warzone solo on Geforce Now, connected to a local server with no more than 5ms latency via that connection, and it felt pretty decent. Definitely playable, and i think i got 2nd or 1st in a few of those games, but as soon as it gets over like 15-20ms, you're cooked.

Completely agreed. The null hypothesis on that has always fallen on extraterrestrials, assuming we know everything about every single cubic meter on earth, which is anthropomorphically flawed. I never really speculate on what it was, exactly, because i don't have enough data. My first assumption is man-made, not extra-terrestrial or otherwise. It could have been ball lightning or some deception system for false radar return as someone mentioned earlier, but this thing had size to it. it wasn't a reflection. I've seen (vary rare video) examples of ball lightning also, but they don't move like what i saw.

I'm a pilot, i know what things look like in the air from varying distances, balloons, other planes, helicopters, stray plastic sheet, lasers, whatever. I'm also not a believer in supernatural things and i hope aliens are not visiting our planet without our knowledge and/or permission. However, (here we go): I have seen an object in the sky seemingly being intelligently controlled & doing things that we have no current ability to do or understand (as far as we know) and these maneuvers would absolutely turn the occupant (if there was one) into a warm liquid. it had a single kind of unnaturally bright (but not blinding for some reason) blueish light and it just danced in the sky like physics just didn't matter at all. I and 4 other friends of mine watched it for about 3-5 mins until it turned toward space and zipped away like it was nothing. This was clearly a large object, about the size of a fighter jet.

Based on that experience and my interpretation of my senses, I feel like i personally know for a fact that SOMETHING is flying around in our skies that we currently have no inventory for (that is publicly known at least) and to be absolutely prudent i would want to investigate that object and understand what it is, where it came from and who made it (i also want to fly it) and that would be an absolute priority. It's not that there's nothing in the skies of interest. There is something up there that people are seeing that's not being misidentified (it's not being identified at all!), but it's a real object. My guess: advanced american drone with a new power source and propulsion system that the general public (including research scientists) didn't know was possible. Other than that, sure maybe aliens, if our understanding of the universe is just completely flawed and FTL is actually possible.

I'm not here to try to convince anyone (maybe i am subconsciously, but whatever). It's just incredibly frustrating because i absolutely hate religion and any other belief systems that might promote a lack of critical thinking, and it looks like i'm presenting a lack of critical thinking here. Yes, i do not know what it was, but I'm also an educated engineer who happens to be a pilot. I completely understand that humans have faulty perception and probably even more faulty brains, but I also understand when something is an object versus when it's of some other quality (gas, solid, etc.). I'm increasingly annoyed when i see the entire subject seem to get dismissed simply because there are so many bad reports and bad information.

Yes, it still isn't, we all know that. But we all also know that it was MUCH more unreliable then. Everyone's just being dishonest to try to make a point on this.
