75k number was brain washing to convince people that money doesnt matter. Wealth unlocks a completely different life, and yes, you are missing out if you dont have it

Just your modern day enterprise coder. Spend my nights hacking away at functional languages to stave off the monotony of coding in corporate feudalism.
Make more in sales than engineering?
Most microservice architecture
React native is just better, and it has been for years.
Legislating their country into irrelevance
You literally just made this up based on nothing
Technology done well is more valuable than ever. Companies not paying up for their developers are going down the tubes.
Yeah but you can get reliable smoke, and from brands that you can trust. I would much rather this than be wondering if I'm smoking pesticides.
yes.
Sad to see this with the Adam Swartz post both on the front page. We need more powerful people who will voice, not for the proliferation of conspiracies, but for the right to speak ones mind on the internet. Even here on HN any attempt at putting forth the wrong opinion on the election will result in a ban. This will embolden and validate the opinions of Trump supporters. This morning, Angela Merkel voiced her own fears that censorship is going too far
Booting negative people out of my life
Right, but a modern research record is about incremental improvement. The argument being that low hanging fruit is often picked, and so the incremental is natural. My argument is that far too many people are gaming the academic system, using it as a form of status credentialing, which is hurting true academic research.
This is actually something I feel strongly about. The absent minded creative professor is the one who traditionally has made the breakthroughs. Recent years has instead seen the straight A student with no curiosity making it into programs, when they really have no business doing novel research and are better suited as orderly wage slaves
Academia keeps employing people who have done well in classes and within fine bounds. Its a careerist track. Industry cares about results, its more meritocratic
They have the best leetcoders!! They are elite!! No problems what so ever with these geniuses!!
1700 people under the age of 35 have died in the USA. Let that sink in. Out of EVERYONE in this country, only 1700 have died under 35
Real time event orchestration, eventual consistency in complex systems
Quit and try it yourself. Life is short, I would take the risk, if youre a good engineer, there is zero shortage of new jobs
"I don't like Trump, so I will side with Tik Tok"
Whether you should side with Tik Tok or not, the above statement applies to a massive percentage of people who don't agree with the Tik Tok ban. This is dangerous thinking
My favorite youtube video of all time:
"Nietzsche In Twelve Minutes"
A comment from r/machinelearning:
"It seems obvious from the demos that GPT-3 is capable of reasoning.
But not consistently.
It would be critical, imo, to see if we can identify a pattern of activity in it associated with the lucid responses vs activity when it prodcues nonsense.
If/when we have such a apattern we would need to find a way to enforce it to happen in every interaction"
And people agree:
"Dunno why you are getting downvoted, I agree with you. It seems like to get GPT-3 to do good reasoning you have to convince it that it is writing about a dialogue between two smart people. Talking to Einstein, giving some good examples, etc. all seem to help. Shaping really seems to matter, but I don’t think we have enough access to the hidden state to determine if there are quantitative differences between when it is more lucid and when it isn’t.
It’s like Gwern said: “sampling cannot prove the absence of knowledge, only the presence of it” (because whenever it fails, maybe with a different context, different sampling parameters, using spaces between letters, etc. it would have worked)"
Its interesting that this kind of speculation is entering the conversation. I think we are on the cusp
We can only hope. In the end, Google will fall when new technology is accessible and powerful enough to create search in a new way. Competing with them as they are is impossible, but competing on search from a new paradigm is possible. If not GPT-3, then something is coming. But I doubt it will look like Google search, it will be different, but will fulfill the same need
The human brain is not a blank slate, it already has an architecture built in that is custom made to handle certain types of information. Asserting that we are learning from scratch is a ridiculous statement, the learning of the human brain has been occurring for millions of years through evolution.
Just recently implemented connected components in a spark job that runs on a 100TB of data.
Only if I am going to have like ten different children
But the truth is most men never had any privilege. They could get married and get in a monogamous relationship. If they went out and pursued women causally, it wasn't working just like it isn't working now. Its a complete myth that men held the cards. The same high caste men that held the cards back then still hold the cards now.
"I wonder what the societal implications are for having a majority of young men be very undesirable and a majority of women start on top of the world at 18 and steadily fall down from there and have to settle. It doesn't seem to be good for either gender."
I dont think we have seen the full impact of this yet. Online dating has been a major catalyst and made things alot worse. I think we are still 10-15, maybe 20 years off before we see people growing older and the toll this type of sexual marketplace takes on their relationships.
I'm not going to lay my whole life and justification out for you. But this is based on a decade of experience
I'm in my early 30s and am trying to move away from this type of thing. But it was my life for all of my 20s
Its a zero sum game. When one side wins, the other side loses. Sexual freedom for women means essentially no sex for alot of men.
