While getting a handle of the basics of the game you really won't miss out on any of the new features in the latest version. They're at a somewhat more advanced level and you'll be spending your time trying to figure out the menus and how to not die of starvation and thirst, and less concerned with what instrument bards should play.

I don't think specs are ever going to be perfect. Simply because the people typically writing specs (project managers, user experience designers, business analysts etc.) view the requirements through a different lens than a developer.

In my experience the best solution is for them simply to be available to the developers to answer questions that arise in a timely manner.

That might follow the pattern but it breaks a bunch of typical user story rules. It's easy to blame the format, but it sounds like the product owner needs to be educated on the process.

It can. Although my understanding is that if one side purposefully generates high costs then they can get in a lot of trouble for doing so.

It's also worth noting that the UK is lowering the amount of fees you can get back. There's an upper limit on the percentage of fees you can get paid by the other side. Well without a contract (even a verbal agreement) in place for them to refer to in court, as a case it seems pretty thin. It also seems like the lawyers will make more out of this than any of the parties.

Interesting thanks. I'm the only previous owner, I let it lapse carelessly. As my the domain is my name, and a pretty unique one, it doesn't have much resale value.

My guess is that when I was blogging regularly it got enough traffic to get on some watchlist and when it became available was snapped up. But don't think it will see any traffic without me pushing it.

But I suspect you're right they don't make it easy to contact them so I don't imagine it's up for sale.

If someone has a domain of my name that's very low value (I'd a domain I used to use for a blog). Is it likely they'll let it go after a year with little traffic? If not how much would you expect them to want? How do you get in touch if they've used an anonymous registrar?

Fair use doesn't exist in EU. There are certain provisions of copying allowed for research and a few select reasons but its much more restrictive than the US.

Worth noting that this is a fairly uniquely American standard and would be illegal in most of Europe.

It's also not just about internal communication it's about other companies and partners you deal with being available at the same time. While email can allow people to offset communication due to its asynchronous nature, a lot of businesses are still run primarily over the phone.

If you're a service provider, there's a big advantage in being available at the same times as your clients.

What he misses is that you can generally have the desktop experience by hooking up a nice big second monitor, comfortable keyboard & mouse and an external hard drive. That usually means having a dedicated space in your office/home but with a laptop you're not tied to that space.

I'm actually surprised he didn't mention gaming as a big driver for desktops as an area which need the big fans or graphics cards that you don't get in laptops (though gaming laptops have come a long way in the last 5 years)
