I've always wanted to write an MMO but the time investment cost for me never seemed worth it for being someone who only pretends to be a game dev (and with so many other projects on my list, hard to justify the cost). I appreciate the look into the dev process over the long period of time.

Thank you for your work! I was in a panic when Snips was bought up. After some research I landed on Rhasspy as my new local-first digital assistant, and it's been fantastic. Been using it for a few years now with satellites around the house with the 'brain' running on a VM. Even have a Siri shortcut which transcripts my speech input then makes an HTTP request to 'brain' instance so that I can use Rhasspy even if not around a satellite instance. This even works over my VPN!

It would be much nicer if I can just backup my iPhone to my nas (which I use for my Mac's Time Machine target) which is always online and available over a vpn rather than have to pull out my mbp to do a backup.

Going through the comments, I didn't find any explanation other than "facebook monitors your clipboard."

This is a huge hit to any privacy-conscious user. Being able to host my snips.ai instance locally and not rely on a cloud was a huge win.

While it seems like instances should stay up, the ability to create new intents will close down at the end of Jan.

I have: 3x raspberry pis 1x intel compute stick

iPhone (running MrMC) Apple TV (MrMC) but MrMC hasn't been updated to the latest Kodi yet so I can't use those in a shared env.

Up until a few months ago, natively playing netflix was not possible with a released version of Kodi. Now it is using the link I posted!

I think Kodi has made amazing progress. I've not had issues getting it installed on different devices since the 15.x days. Currently run it on 4 different dedicated devices in my apartment as well as some mobile and media devices.

The docs on how to do simple things seem to be nonexistant because they don't want to be sued and shutdown entirely.

What docs are you looking for? They have a very extensive wiki as well as an active community on their own forum.

I don't know if this will be helpful to you but an open source media player, Kodi, recently added support for Netflix in the latest version of the app (by implementing a DRM engine for people to use).

This requires the use of the widevine library which then downloads things behind the scenes upon use (I believe). https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=329767

I can't imagine Google gave the OK to Kodi to use widevine so maybe you can see what they did?

Didn't the second Vive release provide something more gamer oriented?

I have a 3d printer at home that i picked up a couple years ago, so I know how much of a time sink these things could be. Regardless, every time I print something, it makes up for all the lost time/money.

I've been looking for a home PCB machine and would appreciate any recommendations on what to look at or what to avoid.

I've been told multiple times that it's easier to just have a service print your board which is probably true, but that would take a lot of fun out of the entire process for me.

I've been eyeballing the CNC 3018 Pro for a few weeks now. I would appropriate any input you have on the device. Pros/cons/alternatives I should look at. Anything!

I wish they'd just drop the idea of external monitor support.

One of the biggest selling points for me is the external monitor support. Of course this phone isn't going to have features like carplay/android auto (and coming from carplay, I would be very sad to lose this functionality) but since this phone has a way to connect an external display, I plan on doing something to plug my phone into my car's head unit (via hdmi) and have it display GPS maps and possibly media player (through kodi).

Looking forward to having the freedom to do whatever I want (hopefully) with this phone!!

Been using snips in 3 different rooms in my home for about a year now, hooked into home assistant, with many custom actions that I specifically made for my apartment. I LOVE being able to control my apartment without the need for the internet.

Too bad local control seems to be a luxury these days, rather than the standard.

I think this goes back to searching for other life on earth-like planets. We know what life looks like on our planet, so that's really the only thing we have to go off of, otherwise we are stabbing in the dark.

Likely we are searching for radio waves and light since that's the only thing we know how to communicate with.

Snips is straight forward as mostly it is integrated into my home assistant, but with a lot of custom voice commands to pull specific data

As long as you can run your own software, you can build what you want. Not to say it will have the polish current solutions offer, but I don't want current solutions. I want mine.

There was an article recently here about someone using a RasPi (with golang) to build a custom GPS mapping solution. I've been doing something similar (though using raspi connecting to my head unit via composite video) as well as pulling sensor info from ODBII and currently looking into CanBus.

Looks like an HDMI mini is confirmed, which means time to build my own in-car librem-based infotainment center, starring Kodi and Home Assistant!

My current favorite ones: - My GF is a bit forgetful and sometimes leaves her purse behind when leaving somewhere. I had an automation setup with an ibeacon in her purse and owntracks on her phone to detect when the purse is far away from her, and send me and her a notification

- i built a bed occupancy sensor so hass knows if we're in bed or not, and disables automations that would otherwise be annoying (mainly the motion-detected lights in the bedroom)

- i come home and say "hey snips, i'm home" which turns on the tv and sets kodi to a plugin that i tend to use.

- i have a snips.ai command (hey snips, let's party) which turns on my lifx bulbs and makes them change colors

- also whenever Eric Prydz comes on my living room kodi, those party lights come on

- i have an announcement go out over snips.ai tts when my 3d print starts (so i can go ensure the first few layers are good) and when the 3d print is done. I also have snips commands to tell me how much time is left on my 3d print job, and if the temperature of the nozzle spikes too high.

I saw the mention in the post about video out. I really do hope they can do something with this, as I plan on ultimately replacing my carplay headunit with something homegrown to able utilize the phone as much as I can.

As far as I know, Ryzen has avx-256, its four 128bit units can join as two 256 bit ones without any penalty.

What makes this not real AVX? Because there is not one dedicated 256-bit unit?

Twitch has become my default entertainment at home.

What I really enjoy about Twitch is that I can have it on in the background while doing other stuff (coding most of the time).

I am a huge video game fan, but as I aged, unfortunately, I found it difficult to dedicate time to video games (and there by taking time away from my coding). Twitch allows me to not only get the story of video games, but enjoy the game along with an entertaining streamer and chat (though I rarely ever pay attention to chat).
