The article mentions that you can't use FPS as a yardstick for performance if you're already getting "max", but there is a way around this.

You can measure the frame start and end time (duration) and divide 1000/average duration over 1 second. This will give you the render speed even if that's not the actual number of rendered frames.

I recommend water. Good lifestyle which makes you happy is good enough, no need for mood altering substances which is a slippery slope that can lead to dependence or addiction.

Cultivate a life of happiness by making good choices and let your choices snowball. If your life is so good you will be happier than any substance could make you feel.

I've experienced a similar effect but from a fresh operating system reinstall from any of Windows, Mac and Linux. I expect it's due to a fresh disk format and install, so all the files should be unfragmented for faster sequential reads. Also over time the search indices and data builds up which just makes things slower.

I haven't used Windows 11 much myself but I just thought I would mention this. I've even seen this effect on an iPad where a fresh install makes searching fast again but over time the search function just becomes excruciatingly slow.

You didn't share how old you are, but I'm almost 30 and felt like before while working a highly demanding job my memory and mind was slightly affected. Just from sustained pressure over time.

Almost 1.5 years after quitting my mind feels just like it did when I was 20. Only difference is now just a different personality from being older I'd say. I'll be soon beginning a new job though so wish me luck!

I'm currently living single, and I definitely found that only using natural light helps immensely. I don't even turn on the lights after 9pm ish and just see by street light barely coming in the windows. It actually works great. Makes me feel more connected to the physical world also.

I have some doubts about this, since I feel like using a screen as a keyboard is more prone to joint based injury or wear and tear like posture or RSI related problems. So at least I don't think it would be the main keyboard type.

Sounds like you have a talented developer on your hands without enough experience for the business sense. Maybe for the inter personal sense also.

Sounds like a mid level developer since they have the code skills but lacking experience and inter personal skills. I myself have been in this phase once, although I achieved significant improvements in UX, performance and maintainability though changing structure.

I would say just low key ask them what's the business case or engineering justification for the rewriting. Ask them to justify the justification, just probe their process. Over time hopefully you can converge an agreement.

You mentioned his views are binary but this isn't very important. Maybe he's just being to the point or concise. A bigger issue could be if he's hurting other people's feelings with comments in which case that just needs to be brought to his attention if he doesn't realize.

All the code there was likely written by existing members of the team so criticizing that code could be taken badly by other people, well intentioned or not. Ask him to think about other people hearing somebody criticize the projects they worked on.

Structural change for performance improvement or making the code less error prone are the 2 big reasons I can see for rewriting code. 3rd being if the codebase is just legacy and needs to be updated.

There's nothing wrong with an experienced dev improving code structure (at the expense of working on more tickets) but it needs at least an engineering or business justification generally.

I'm guessing they publish their tax rate on the first page to counter criticisms of "big corps that pay no taxes".

It's hard to deny that a company cannot grow forever with the same product. There's literally only so many people on Earth. It's not a bad thing for growth to stop. It's a bad thing for your product to offer a sub par user experience though. I think this is where Facebook has suffered as they prioritized metrics and numbers over making a product that people love.

It seems from the statement that the fed understands that the inflation is being caused by supply chains and the war in Russia. What I don't get though is how that's considered monetary inflation as opposed to the money supply increasing. I thought that it was just price increases.

So the fed mandate is just to ensure that the prices of goods and services barely ever changes even if it means tanking all the markets?

So sick of reading all the time about people wanting to get rich from crypto grift. It's not providing any value to society to buy crypto and resell it at a higher price later to some sucker.

These people don't even want to use crypto to make transactions. It's definitely not a good idea to put all your net worth in it for a number of reasons also. Principally being it's not a mature system. There's nothing that says a new crypto alternative will come out tomorrow that totally voids all the stuff that exists today.

I agree with this article, housing shouldn't be an "investment" but rather a place to live and have a good life.

By taxing it, it provides disincentive for people to use it as an income generating or speculative asset.

We shouldn't view housing as a way to "get rich" but housing actually provides much better utility if it's price is stable and not prone to boom bust cycles. Since more people would be able to buy at any given time for their budget if prices stay low.

If you really want to level up your career you should learn how to answer this yourself. Your question is very unspecific so without knowing your requirements like build speed or project size there's no way to give a real answer.

In short, yes it's fast enough. And no I've not even used it. Only M1.

I previously built side projects with a real idea for an app like a social media app for example. In the future I might focus more on just leetcode type questions in the language for hands on familiarity. The right thing for each person just depends where they are in their technology journey.

Technically Bitcoin isn't anti inflationary in the sense of it being correlated with US inflation. It's only anti inflationary in the sense of it being subject to a limited supply. So anybody believing Bitcoin is correlated with their countries inflation is sorely mistaken.

Gold on the other hand is a commodity with a real market use as a material, so you would expect it's price to go up when the value of currency goes down. But it's also subject to many market forces so it's price is not as simple as an inflation number. Any commodity material or product could be seen this way

I personally didn't use it because whenever I looked on it the prices seemed a little on the high side.

I think it's a case of one app doing one thing though. When I go traveling maybe I look on trip advisor for good things to do, I don't want canned experiences. I would have been more likely to use it when I was living in NYC but it was too expensive anyway

This makes total sense but I've never heard of it. Is there any literature or writing about this phenomenon?

I guess proper redundancy is having different brands of equipment also in some cases.

There's some beastly new laptops that recently came out, with Intel gen 12 and Nvidia 3000 series GPUs, the price is around 1300-1700 USD range. The power usage is higher than MacBook but if you use it plugged in for programming (and gaming) it's really the best thing for most people.

Reviews seem to say battery life ranges from 4 to 10 hours depending on the configuration. This gen is way thinner than previous also. Refresh rate is 120-300hz. Anyway I've not personally used it but I'll be trying them out in the store soon.

Sure but what if the US govt decided to launch a 51% attack on btc anyway?

I don't argue that blockchain tech will keep improving. I just say if it's going to be a currency of the future why do we have to spend money on it now? Won't we be able to create parallel blockchains to increase token supply? It's not an intrinsically valued asset, like buying a stock (which some have returned more money than speculative bitcoin purchasing). Why should the bitcoin believers tell everybody to buy it if there's nobody accepting it for payments?
