The best Linux analogue I can think of is systemd. It's not about resisting minor changes or sticking to an obsolete OS and expecting the vendor to support you indefinitely. It's about the rug being pulled out from under your feet and completely fucking over everything you liked about the platform, while all the people you hoped would take a stand, bow their heads and step meekly into line.

With Linux, you can still install an alternative distro that doesn't use systemd. Or you could switch to a BSD. With Windows, you could keep using 7, up until now. Now you will eventually have no choice. It's as if systemd were completely embedded in the kernel and every alternative distro and *NIX nuked from orbit. Only, rather than mostly affecting sysadmins, this affects hundreds of millions of ordinary users.

Aborting all boys is a bit extreme. Instead, what would happen if you systematically disempowered and imprisoned western men in favor of women, over the course of decades? Then, when only "empowered" women and feminine nu-males are left, their hearts will reach out to the poor people of the third world who they will welcome with open arms into their utopian multicultural society free of evil white men. At which point, the (especially in comparison) hyper-masculine immigrants will rape and pillage and destroy everything you tried to create. They won't want to "integrate" and castrate themselves, they'll happily take advantage of your weak, pathetic pushover of a "society" and attempt to turn it into that of their own. At which point, perhaps we will be completely doomed and we will regress into a dark age where opinions like your own will get you beheaded faster than you can say "toxic masculinity." Or perhaps, the real men of your society will rise up to fend them off, and the real women will return to the home to preserve their bloodlines. And in a few generations, if by chance you aren't already paste on the pavement, you and all of your castrated friends will look quite foolish. A generation of non-breeding suicidal idiots that almost killed the only society that would ever accept them.

I saw a video about 6502 hardware emulation where the guy said his was half-cycle complete. Looking forward to understanding all of that.

To give you a little head start on that, where many digital circuits are clocked (or make one step) on just the rising edge of a clock cycle (where it transitions from low-to-high), the 6502 clocks on both the rising and falling edges; certain parts (like the hardware that initiates a memory access) will fire on the rising edge, then the part that needed that information will fire on the rising edge half a cycle later (like making the ALU start adding the value that was just fetched from memory to the accumulator)[1].

If you've ever heard someone say that a 6502 of one speed is roughly equivalent to a Z80 clocked at twice the speed, now you know why: the internal logic is essentially clocked twice as fast as the input clock.

[1] IIRC this isn't completely correct, and external memory is allowed to take up to 3/4ths of a cycle to perform a memory access to accommodate slower ROMs, but you get the idea.

What is the practical implication of this? In China Windows XP on modern hardware is still by far the dominant OS, so I would be very surprised if any of the major manufacturers would stop releasing drivers for that, let alone 7.

Feminists have selected against male aggressive behavior in our education systems for decades. They have "successfully" ruined the lives of countless western boys and laid the foundation for immigrants from non-castrated cultures to take their stead with redoubled aggression. It's human nature to crave sex, maybe not with every single person you meet, but certainly with more than a single partner in your entire life, right? For thousands of years, Christianity attempted to "work on this" aspect of human nature and make non-monogamous sexuality taboo. It was fairly successful at it. Yet (depending on your perspective) it only took somewhere between a few years and a few decades post-sexual revolution for it all to come crashing down spectacularly.

I can't say I expected this, but it makes a lot of sense. The Wii U was well loved but didn't sell well. With this kind of set up, they get to provide the same kind of experience to their home console users with a fraction of the development resources, while making their bread and butter mobile users happy with more powerful hardware. Meanwhile NVIDIA has hemorrhaged money on their mobile chipsets for years, and now they finally have a committed customer that can take advantage of their graphics expertise, ramp up production and maybe even lead to them becoming more competitive in the smart phone and tablet markets. Nintendo gets the kind of leverage Sony and Microsoft had over AMD when they were desperate for customers for their APUs, NVIDIA gets to take back a slice of the console pie.

That's a big if. I was thinking about services like Cloudflare that terminate SSL close to the user, then tunnel the traffic to your servers. It cuts down on handshake latency and allows for secure distribution of cacheable content easily, but in return you are essentially handing your plaintext over to Cloudflare.

"Outsourcing TLS termination" is intentionally MitMing your users. Not really something to be happy about.

Storage is insanely cheap. A terabyte external hard drive is about $60 on Amazon. You can fill one of those up with more FLAC music than you will ever listen to, then encode what you want for regular listening in the lossy format of your choice. The alternative is committing to a lossy format today and being essentially stuck with it forever; you claim mere mortals can't tell the difference between FLAC and high bitrate lossy (I don't disagree), but I'll bet you can tell the difference between first and second or third generation lossy. When you think about it, you're losing usable space on your devices right now, because 260kb/s AAC can be imperceptibly replaced with much lower bitrate Opus.
