I think NZ did the mistake to not test enough people for too long and not doing enough controls at the borders (which is a relative easy task for a fairly isolated island, with only a bunch of international airports). I'm very happy they decided to move quickly in the last week, and the PM did a very good job giving clear information of what is going to happen and what is expected from everybody. Considering that only 4 months ago I was living in Italy, I feel so lucky I moved my family here before things start to collapse back home..

I agree with you, being in the same position. I wonder if the DevOps trend started because of the constant friction between devs and ops. While devs main concern and job is to deliver new features, ops main concern and job is to keep things stable. These different goals caused ops to be seen as an obstacle to dev job. Being the devs close to the business was easy to predict that we would be taken out or at least required to change. I think, we (ops) are mainly the one to blame for the current situation and now we can only adapt or die.

In my experience OVH support is completely useless.. you have to wait for ages before having a response, and when you get it, it's useless...

both are needed in the end if you want to be full covered.. backup will cover human errors (ops I deleted the wrong file), RAID will cover hardware failures

I bought a piper (http://getpiper.com), you can integrate with some z-wave accessories to monitor the door, windows, turn on/off lights or device.. Is nice, whenever you want, you can connect and see whats happening in your house, see statistics (only for the last 48h) about temperature, humidity, light, noises, etc Unfortunately is far from being perfect, a basic feature like automatic activation of the alarm during the days is not possible (and to me seems a quite basic feature for an alarm system).. This, together with the fact that activating/disabling the alarm takes too long, ends with me not using the alarm system at all, except for long absence from home Having some public API to play with would be nice too..
