We are in the moviepass phase of AI

How much is some AI SaaS company or some AI training company paying for this type of data? It has to be a lot for them to risk doing something like this.

I wish we lived in a world where companies like this would be punished but I think they're just going to say oops, effectively blaming it on some intern and moving on without anything happening to them.

I thought this was exaggerating but what happened to making art for arts sake. Nearly every time I hear or see AI art its extremely painful to me (with very few exceptions). I suppose it will get to the point of plastic surgery where the well crafted AI art will start to be difficult to discern from real art and at that point, maybe humanity should hang up the towel.

All that is to say, I like the originals so much more and would never in all eternity listen to the AI crafted stuff for listening enjoyment. I want to forget the AI versions like I had never heard them.

Kill it with fire. Kalshi, polymarket, all of these gamble on the news platforms. Just end them all.

If they're willing to do this to their own employees that they pay and supposedly wanted to keep around, what are they willing to do with your data? What are they willing to do with the systems they connect to your systems? "Dumb f*cks" has truly been the ethos of this company from day 1.

It's been like this for a long time and nothing has changed. In fact I would argue that consumer and citizen privacy has gotten much, much worse. It is extremely wishful thinking (in typical hackernews commenter fashion) that the "free" market will generate consumer protections.

This is the realization I had too. We had a manager update a policy at our org. He just shit it out through AI. It had tons of mistakes, people who read it had questions. Not only did it have mistakes it was causing people to do things in a way that added a manual step when an automatic process existed. Then the engineer VP commented on it asking the original author what its about who then had to bring it back up to the attention of the manager who made the first change.

It wasted many people's time, probably an order of magnitude of time wasted (and money) than if the initial person put a modicum of effort into making it right in the first place. Instead they hand it off to their life partner claude and just assume its good enough.

It's to the point where I am feeling insulted when I get ai slop like this from people. If I am expected to perform at a high level then I expect that at the very minimum the slop throwers will proof read their slop.

For the past 2 years I moved somewhere where I did not need to have a car or to drive for pretty much any reason. I understand I am fortunate here but it seems like such a huge oversight to have designed literally all of our society around cars and vehicles instead of efficient public transport and better designed cities.

This doesn’t paint the entire picture. Suicide rates peaked in 1990 and then declined to its lowest point in 2007 from there the rates started rising again.

The tech was fine/interesting for what it is. The product itself is awful and something from nightmares. It's not an enjoyable experience for me watching some uncanny valley slop. I'm not impressed with the "creativity" of someone typing in a prompt and having a plagiarismbox spit something out. The ingenuity and resourcefulness of someone actually making something is what I like. The emotion and reasons behind a work of art make it inspiring. The details of their perspective and choices they make when creating it are beautiful and interesting.

The impact of easy AI generated video is a less certain and less secure world. You can't trust your eyes anymore because of how fast and easy it is to fake video and moments. You can't trust communications with someone because how easy it is to impersonate them over video and voice. Scams involving tools like this are already running rampant and it will only get worse. The sheer level of distrust these tools have unleashed into the world makes me wish they never existed. They have burned millions (billions?) of dollars on this when that money would have been better served going to the creators whose work they stole to build it. It's rotten.

Extrapolate this into a forever war where oil is increasingly expensive week after week.
