I have a face that works well without the face seal and with the old dual band: Counter weighted with the back of my head in a way that floats the headset over my nose/face. Going back to squeezing this onto my face like the old knit band seems like it would go backwards in comfort. How can anyone have this pressed against their face for 8+ hours?

My Airpod Pros literally screech at an unsafe noise level if they're in Transparency or Noise Cancellation. I think some part of them got damaged ruining any kind of processing. I've been able to continue to use the in the Off mode for over a year. Hope this isn't too annoying to opt out of.

It's mostly an excuse. They're looking for reputation or monetary gain. If you have grants waiting to write a check to an institution or some high individual reputation that the university can claim as their own this excuse of cross-pollination disappears.

You pay a non insignificant amount more for this experience. Not that it isn't worth it to some people, you don't get a horrible price you're just guaranteed not a low price. True about the entire haggle free market though.
