Summary: "Unfortunately, sometime around WWII, Newton’s laws were replaced by the Bernoulli theorem and a hand-waving argument for the acceleration of air over the top of a wing. It is our hope that teachers will return to the basics and use Newton’s laws to describe lift. Then students can explore flight in much more depth than was possible with the popular explanation using Bernoulli."

The wings of an airplane in level flight direct air downward with a force equal to the airplane's weight. If one were to build a large scale on the ground, as an airplane flies over it, the scale would register the weight of the airplane. The wings act like a scoop forcing air downward behind the wing. At least that's the way I think about it when I'm out flying around in my Cessna.
Yes. This is the happy path. But also submit the patch, of course!
What the heck, Debian?
You could substitute “trusted entities” for “banks”. Get ten banks on board, buy them each a raspberry pi, and you are up and running.
A Cessna Caravan airplane does not land itself. It's a thoroughly manual process. As a pilot, I'm in awe of the controller and passenger for being able to pull this off.
Pilot here. I'm floored that a person with no flying experience could put this airplane down without a scratch.
Air traffic controllers are not necessarily pilots, but luckily, this one was a pilot and certified instructor. ATC and passenger worked through a stressful situation to produce an amazing outcome. Bravo!
So acupuncture. And the authors filed a patent for the needles. Results are unbelievable. Independent duplication needed. I have tinnitus.
We are wired to want to participate in a social system. To belong. To have a common enemy. I propose organized sports!
Jim Allison - Breakthrough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MapggZMbCaI
Dr. Allison recently was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his persistent decades-long pursuit of using our own immune system to combat cancer. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 melanoma in early 2017, and I have been cancer-free for almost five years. Thank you, Jim.
Most likely methane dissolved in well water. Came out of solution in the tank. Wells that produce water with dissolved methane need scrubbers and forced air ventilation on the tanks.
If he represented himself as an engineer or engineering expert in a legal proceeding, well, that’s where he may have made a mis-step. Even if it’s on behalf of his son. Maybe, he should have prefaced every sentence with IANAE, but…
Citi accidentally transferred the very real risk of default from the creditor to themselves. Revlon bonds trading at 42 cents on the dollar... So, you could say that Citi is out 58% of $500M today.
Edit: The 'creditor' in this case is composed of 10 investment advisory firms, who, at one point, thought the interest payments were a good deal for them. But, rest assured that they are quite pleased to be made whole on their bad investment. Source: https://www.cnn.com/2021/02/16/business/citibank-revlon-laws...
Amoebas most certainly live in the environment; this particular strain is found in warm fresh water throughout the United States.
Here is a report from a local newspaper:
https://thefacts.com/free_share/article_d044115f-7e55-5153-8...
It mentions positive tests for n. fowleri genetic material from the splash pad storage tank, from a nearby fire hydrant and from the hose storage bin at the deceased's home. Understand that this is not the same as discovering viable organisms in the water supply. It would be difficult, though not impossible, for these organisms to survive the water treatment processes, including the final disinfection step. It is possible, if disinfection malfunctioned at the water plant. If the treatment processes were working properly, one could still expect positive tests for genetic material for a variety of bacteria and viruses, but that would only indicate that they were present in the raw water source, not that they were viable organisms in the water supply.
A child died. It is important to try to discover the source of this tragedy. The people in this community are scared and suspicious of their drinking water. I hope the investigation uncovers the probable cause quickly.
CNN story that documents a positive test for naegleria fowleri in splash pad water at Lake Jackson civic center where the six-year-old victim visited: https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/26/us/brain-eating-amoeba-found-...
It is unlikely that the splash pad infestation emanated from the public drinking water supply.
This the right answer! permyriad -> per 1000. percent -> per 100. perunage -> per 1. I now have another way to impress/irritate my peers!
Port knocking, huh?
This is 100% Sarah Cooper’s fault.
So there may be a use for diamonds beyond industrial cutting.
flygarmin.com is back online.
I don’t know. I’ve never even thought about it. Until now.
Oh man. I was mildly amused that people couldn’t access their fitness history. I just tried to access flygarmin.com to update my aircraft’s aviation databases, and this shit just got real.
My airplane is grounded for IFR flights — I always fly IFR. I pay Garmin $865/year for subscription. There are thousands of aircraft in the same predicament.
There's a urologist in Austin, Texas named Richard Chopp.
If false positive rate is 5%, and 1000 of 123,000 were diagnosed with cancer over 10 years, this test would produce 6,100 false positives, and 1,000 true positives.
Six out of seven positive tests would be false positives.
Careful there, athesyn. No need to offend our computer overlords.
Wikipedia gets it wrong too: Try “men without hats” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Men_Without_Hats
That’s a lot of viruses! I’m staying inside.
Negative. The aircraft doesn’t know it’s flying with a tailwind. The onboard GPS and the human bladders know.
I was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma in Feb 2017. At my fourth treatment (every three weeks) of pembrolizumab, my PET and CAT scans were clear. I continued treatment for 12 months, and still get scanned every four months. Still clear 3 weeks ago. My doctor says he now gets to use the c-word with cancer patients. Minimal side effects for me. I wish for my cohorts that more reliable treatments come soon.
