One reliable way to convince customers is to provide emergency notes with a fixed expiration date of a maximum of 1 year from the time the note was written. After 1 year, customers are, in a way, forced to create a new emergency note, and at the same time, they can verify if anything is going to change soon on the platform (e.g. upcoming shutdown). This would also help to keep the emergency note’s content always up-to-date. When you sign up for car insurance, you do so for a maximum of 1 year, as prices and coverages may change.

The emergency note can be readable only via WeExpire, and that's for security reasons - you always need to be notified that someone is trying to access your emergency note.

As any other platform WeExpire could temporarily go down, but it will be always back online before than the minimum inactivity time you can set up in your emergency note (1 day).

Hey, thanks for your feedback!

1. This problem could be avoided by leaving the QR code to more than one trusted recipient.

2. When you create the emergency note, you can add up to two personal email addresses. If one doesn’t work, you can rely on your other email server. We also ask the message creators to add our email address to their email provider's safe senders list in order to prevent any notification from us regarding the emergency note from mistakenly ending up in spam.

3. It can be that the server goes down but it will be always restored in less than 24 hours, which means that no emergency note can be mistakenly accessed in the meantime.

Regarding the inactive service from Google: it’s certainly useful in order to let the user decide what to do with the personal data but it doesn’t allow to send a custom message. Moreover, not everyone has a Gmail account.

but half of them break after a few years or less

One of the biggest downsides is that these type of things contribute to pollute our world twice: when they are made, when they need to be trashed away. Brands that have products that in average break after a very short time should be banned or shouldn't be sold at all.
