What a lovely surprise to see EscapePod. One of the early early podcasts. If you search through their backlog along with the backlog of their sister podcasts, you’ll find some narrations from a much younger, less tired, me.
I miss that age of podcasting. I’m glad EscapePod is still going.

As a Proton user - the main trade-off for me is that you are forced to use their apps on mobile, and those apps are pretty barebones and (on iOS at least) have none of the bells and whistles of a modern iOS app, such as Home Screen widgets.
Since I use my own domain for email, I am considering moving over to another provider once my subscription term is up. I really miss widgets.
My solar install took about 4.5 years to break even, which I understand is maybe a bit below average for where I live (Ireland).
I have spent ~3 months working on various aspects of an MCP server builder at my day job and I hadn’t considered this solution to the nightmare of getting non technical end users connected. I shall be borrowing it next week!

There are also firms that handle all of this for you for a % (in the region of 20%). They validate the claim and threaten ti take the airline to court if they don’t pay out.
I generally go direct to the airline these days but if I get pushback beyond what I’m willing to deal with myself, I’ll use one of those services.

The issue is getting the lenses in and out of my eyes. I simply can’t. I tried really hard for about 4 hours with a consultant and I think that I got it in successfully once, and she had to remove it for me while I held my eye open.
If they invented this for shortsightedness, which I have very slightly, I would pay a huge amount of money (in European medical cost terms) for it.
I mildly dislike wearing glasses but need them or I have a headache within an hour, I can’t overcome my blink reactions to put in contacts (after several hour long sessions with my optometrist) and my shortsightedness isn’t strong enough to convince myself to go for laser eye surgery.
I remember some blog (maybe HackADay?) suggested sanding the back to give it a brushed aluminium look and that ended up looking so cool. Those early iPods were all-time-great products.
Is Kagi getting better for places outside the USA? Last time I tried to use them (in Ireland) all of the results were US focused, while Google would realise that I'm in Ireland and prioritise Irish businesses/sources and so on. I needed to include the word "Ireland" in any search phrase like "curtain cleaners Dublin" or otherwise I'd get curtain cleaning companies in a Dublin somewhere else, with no Irish results until the 2nd page.
Also, there was significant latency in searching compared to Google.

I went through my drawers and I have a bunch of black nylon Joseph Joseph spatulas and fish slices and things [1]. ChatGPT tells me that nylon is not frequently recycled because it's tough to do so - so I'm hoping that these are safe. They also say:

and they aren't some no-name brand that wouldn't suffer from lying about that.

I have this same issue. I've got to unpause the app multiple times, and wait for upwards of 15 to 30 seconds before the app actually unpauses.
In Farrenfore you just get on the train. It’s a toss up on whether anybody will check your ticket on your journey to Dublin.

The article clarifies that this would cover pretty much any website which allows you upload video, so minors would have to take part on YouTube, Facebook, etc.
I guess the opt out would be to not use those platforms, but that seems unlikely.
Interesting article. I have my own problem, that caused me to have to upgrade my iCloud plan, and thus may not be a high priority fix for Apple.
If you shoot RAW+JPEG (not a super-rare thing to do, for photo enthusiasts) then Apple Photos links the two images. Which is useful, rather than having a bunch of kinda-duplicates littering your library you can easily toggle between RAW and JPEG.
But this combining, along with the file system design described in this article, makes it impossible (as far as I can tell, anyway) to easily separate them and delete the RAWs. So years later, I have HUGE RAW files that I'll never touch that I can't delete, because I want to keep the much smaller JPEGS.
Any method that I've found to clean them up (exporting the originals, deleting them from the library, and then re-importing the JPEGs only seems easiest) will lose all of the years of metadata that I've built up in the library.
So I have to upgrade.
I actually don't really use the social stuff all that much. I already have a mastodon account on a country-specific server, and I'm not much of an IRC/Discord user
I argue with computers for my day job, I don’t want to do that after work hours too. I’m happy to pay somebody else (especially Adam who is just so active with the community) a fairly paltry sum to do it for me.
I've been using Omg.lol for around a year now (Cian.lol) and am really enjoying it. It's just so simple - it feels like travelling back in time to when we wrote blog posts and made websites to share with our friends, not to Create Content.
They've got a Tokyo office so they're probably interested selling to that market too
