I did Paris - London by Eurostar. The security and border control part is as annoying as flying. Actually it’s even worse since they check all your luggage. If you fly at least they only check handluggage. Ride was great however.

I'm on a cultural visa and am learning a martial art under the guidance of a teacher. I pay taxes in the origin country, but it's not optimal. If you have enough money, found a company, then you won't have any problems and can renew easily.

It gave me the dream to work remotely from abroad. I'm relatively poor and working a lot, but almost 2 years in Japan now.

If MSSQL runs on a synology nas, then a lot of smaller companies can save a lot of money, because they wouldn't need a huge server anymore.

I can imagine difficulties that happen regularly in those teams not appearing, since remote work probably attracts more internationally minded people with fluent english.

I've had to work with a french dev that only wanted to write emails in english and refused to speak it on the phone, maybe because his office mates could listen.

A francophone boss that was so overconfident in his english ability, that he considered using "yeah" instead of "yes" as rude.

Happened to me too with my 2011 macbook air and my 2010 macbok pro 15' when using the 2 prong adapter at home in Europe. Currently typing this on a 13'' late 2014 13'' MBP with 2 prongs in Japan. No problems.

Finally somebody reasonable in this thread. Most people might want this behaviour.

I live in Japan, and while mobile hotspots are popular for airbnbs and tourists, I don't think most people have them here. Also, there are mobile hotspots with unlimited data. The rest of the country has unlimited fiber at home, so it's especially those people that want their youtube and facebook videos to autoplay.

I used this to make my own webshop software for a client. Lots of ajax features but only 80 lines of javascript in total. Intercooler is great to update the shopping cart in the sidebar when pressing the add to cart button. This makes the shop feel a lot smoother.

I recommend everyone who's visiting Tokyo to take a trip to Enoshima and use the Shonan Line to get there. Enoshima is a scenic tiny island and there's a long beach. Great in summer, when there are firework festivals.

Japan also has some great non-suspended monorails. For example the one in Kitakyushu (I love the station architecture) or the one in Naha, Okinawa.

I don`t know. I played ingress and it was very headache and vertigo inducing. Any game that you need to look down at your phone for an extended time and walk around. Feels like a bad idea. Or just too early, because it would need a heads up display like Google Glass to be sucessful.

... and also as someone who makes websites for owners of small business, having something simple is paramount. Joomla is too complicated because it does too much. Wordpress is great as blog software but not created as a cms. They need a page editor, an easy way to add something to a menu and maybe some custom dbfields like imagelists, filelist so you can output these separately in the template.

Wow, seriously? A single meal can cost 30 bucks. As a software engineer I'm offended that people don't want to pay the price of a single meal for something that provides a lot more value. I won't buy it, because I already have a good toolset, but it seems like a good solution.

I'm visiting Japan quite often and made some Japanese friends. Line is quite popular, partly because you can exchange IDs instead of phonenumbers and the stickers. You can see that Japanese people value privacy if you log in to their PC client => all data on your phone is wiped, which is a bit unconvienent for me.

I think it's funny how every other app now copies the line stickers. Facebook does it too, but I'm not sure if it's really catching on here. Japan really likes cute stuff and since the language is a lot more polite and indirect it's probably easier to communicate with stickers.

Line is much better than WeChat tough, which has bad layout, low quality emoticons and doesn't feel native.

WeChat's feature for finding users closeby who opt-in is great. Please check that out, if you are an app developer!

I like Viber more, because their client works everywhere, actual voice calling is included, the software is fast and nice and they have great support, no battery drain like skype.

The real problem here is that http is unencrypted by default. It really should be encrypted so that passive listeners can't see the traffic. I know that this is no protection against man in the middle attacks, but at least WiFi sniffers and similiar would be stopped. State Actors would have to actively do something which might be registered. It would be a great improvement, because in the current system, most websites are going to stay unencrypted because it takes money and effort to set up a certificate. The millions of shared hosters won't do it by default.

What we can do: - Change the http protocol to be encrypted? - create an apache module that automatically does this and needs no setup time (generate private keys automatically?)

Of course there shouldn't be any indicator of this encryption in the adress bar of the browser.

+1 ADHD is real. It was a lot harder to get a career as a software developer started. I feel like without finally discovering the root of my problem and taking meds at age 18 it wouldn't have been possible. All those afternoons spent over procrastinating on homework.

Excercise helps. I feel lasting positive effects on mood and concentration when I lift regularly. Sadly, It doesn't alleviate the symptoms completly and doesn't cure the syndrome.

I think we'll be able to treat ADHD much more efficently when we have cheaper EEG that can be worn always. Recently the muse headband was introduced. I own one and it's a great leap forward. Sadly there's no app for neurofeedback training that is working with it yet...

Also, I have zero knowledge of marketing, but: what about adding a tagline on the first page, that explains it for those people who are impatient, don't have headphones and can't watch the video. Something that explains that you developed an electronic sleep mask that wakes you up with light.

Switzerland is a good location, regarding laws and no corruption. I wonder however how they are going to get work permits anywhere in westeurope tough, when they are all russians. I guess investing a lot of money might fix that problem.
