You're right. iOS has a feature called screen curtain, which turns your screen off while using Voice Over. Great for battery life (and privacy).

I would love to see a gameplay video on the iPad. The controls could be very tough...

Thank you! This is the point I was trying to make in the article. I don't think I articulated it all that well. The technology exists, it's just branded incorrectly.

I would fully except there to be people with deep pockets paying more often than others, but that's an interesting thought. How much would that affect the content being produced.

The pay wall was exactly what I was thinking. It would get users used to paying for upvotes, and then when that money runs out, their credit card is already linked, and makes it easier to fill up.

The main goal is to create a market which supports high quality/high cost content.

The problem is creating a market for content creation. The idea is that if you can generate revenu from quality content, then more quality content will be generated. Think of what Etsy has done for small craft products or what hollywood has done for movies. HN and reddit have created enough of a viewership that an upvote has some amount of value. However that value is only enough to support link aggregation, blog posts, and other low value items.

the idea behind charging to post/upvote is to generate enough of a return to warrant higher value content creation.

There is a really good talk by Jonathan Zittrain on the dangers of crowd sourcing. I think it speaks to your point.

Yea, broken machines or people getting mugged right after cashing out are both concerns. But the people who would benefit most from something like this would be least likely to have a bank account.

1. Patents are awarded based on first to file not first to invent. 2. More funding to decrease wait times for filers 3. Patent Review process for challenges

Thats how I felt when I discovered Reader. I went from browsing like 8 websites to 80, in the same amount of time.

Reader made me more intelligent.

I was just curious. I'm addicted, and I wanted to see if other people felt the same way.

When they dropped Reader from the global nav. I was very upset, but was glad to see there was enough of a ruckus to get it put back.

I don't know that I would pay to keep Google from axing it, but I would consider it, and thats saying something.

That would be a very interesting feature. My Reader search results are by far more useful than google.com results.

I'm also waiting for post to G+ from reader.

I started using Facebook in College, when it was just for college students, and the use case was COMPLETELY different than I would want to use it now.

Now, I'm constantly searching to find an online equivalent of the high-level conversation which I get in the real world (similar to your humour literary allusions).

I'm much more protective of my real-world social connections.

You are a lucky, lucky person if your facebook feed is has that high a signal to noise ratio.

Mine, and I think a lot of other people's is all drivel, and that's after taking the time to block people who I don't care to see.

It's not pulling, because you are creating content. But its not shoving either, cuz the only people who would take the time to read it are people who are at least moderately interested.

Isn't this the driving force behind everyone trying to innovate in the social space? Providing segmented social groups that down have the implied obligations of "friendship."

Isn't this the impetus for why we spend all of our time on HN and Reddit?

I hope thats the case. I dont want them to pull a Yahoo and kill a product that people still use/love (delicious)
