While the wait time to rent a machine may be long (I didn't even know Denver had this,) Denver also has the ideaLAB maker spaces at five branches, all of which are equipped with sewing machines to just drop in and use.

Some ideaLAB locations (like my local one) have fancy machines like embroidery, quilting, and industrial sewing machines. There's also lots of other tools, from basic hand tools to laser cutters and 3d printers (again, location dependent.) There's always staff on hand to help during open lab hours. All free to use. Really an impressive system that I use frequently.

I started sewing on Thanksgiving of 2023. Every day since I've found myself wanting to sew, and have probably sewn something every day since except for maybe 20 days where I was away from home. I feel like I'm ok at sewing after 100+ bags and altering/repairing tons of clothing from yard sales or thrift shops. Most of what I do is completely custom and it's super fun to wear custom matching jeans, jackets, and bags (backpacks & hip/shoulder packs) that I made or altered. Some of my stuff looks like store-bought quality.

For me, as soon as I sewed my first seam, I was hooked. It was like the magic I've felt building software, modifying cars, and woodworking, where you can make something from nothing.

I'd encourage maybe trying out various arts, whatever piques your interest - maybe one will hook you instantly like sewing did for me. In the last couple years, I also dabbled with painting/signmaking, and metalworking (largely with tin snips and a rivet gun) but those didn't really appeal to me instantly or for the longer term like sewing did.

I've realized that the opportunities for the trying/exploring different arts are everywhere and in lots of cases free - community centers, libraries, check your local newspaper('s website), etc. Every single interaction I've had with local art folks in any way has been positive. It's been great to meet folks.

Also, there's so much online to learn from. I've learned a lot from various sites and youtube.

Regarding "Leaving clues, marks when switching topics/projects", some helpful tools for me are vim (configured to remember cursor position) and gnu screen.

If you're willing to learn Rails, Whitepages.com is in Seattle and is hiring engineers. I used to work there and left only to pursue my own passions, but there's a great team there and it was a fun job.

Most knowledgeable cyclists ride on the road all the time. Riding on sidewalks is dangerous, mainly because cars frequently pull out of driveways and stop at the edge of the road, not the edge of the sidewalk. A cyclist on the sidewalk is usually moving faster than the pedestrians that cars are used to, so they don't think to stop at the sidewalk and watch for cyclists.

Totally agree. However, I do find it very dangerous. I frequently try to do stupid things that sound like fun, then fall, when I'm cycling drunk.

I agree with the suggestion regarding Fireworks. The designers and developers at my office use Fireworks instead of Photoshop and it seems like a speedier process.

I arrived at your home page and found nothing that indicates that it's any different than something like Delicious.com. This caused me not to register since I already have an account on Delicious.

I'd mention on your home page what makes your app different than your competition.

I have my users sign up before they can add any content, but I'm going to be implementing "lazy registration" soon, so that they can add their content, see how they like it, and then sign up if they'd like to. It's less of a barrier of entry and I think it will help drive more content being added.

My boss told me about it when we were having a conversation about favorite blogs/daily reading.

I use SimpleTest and it works pretty well for me. The functional testing tools are pretty neat.
