libgit2 has had bugs related to file locking (for example when you make some ref changes while garbage collecting) and libgit2 does not implement all the git features, so you cannot do everything using libgit2 anyway.

Git refs can be packed (see https://git-scm.com/docs/git-pack-refs) so it's not just about checking if a file exists.

There are companies hiring people working remotely from all around the world like GitLab for example. (I am working remotely for GitLab.)

In general you could look at open source projects that have companies hiring remote people behind them. If you find a good project with a good company behind, work on the project, and there is a good chance that you will be hired.

I think many people here just don't like it when people tell them that IQ is not as important as they think.

The responsibility of GitLab and GitHub is not to investigate if those 1000 sites are indeed running malware and how dangerous the malwares on these sites are, and who could be harmed by these malwares.

The responsibility of GitLab and GitHub is also not to judge if it's "more important" to protect the site owners' businesses or the people going to the sites.

If some sites are running malware, the site owners are responsible for fixing it and not harming the people using their sites, not GitLab or GitHub.

On the contrary if site owners could be harmed by the name of their sites being on such list on GitLab or GitHub, then GitLab or GitHub are responsible according to the DMCA.

So GitLab and GitHub are just acting on what they are held responsible for according to the law.

Yeah, so ASICs that are not produced in big enough volume will not move to 14nm or less. This means that FPGA that can move to 14nm or less, because of bigger volume, may become competitive against those ASICs.

Instead of "git reset --hard stuff", I recommend "git reset --keep stuff" as it will not delete uncommited files in the working directory.

People working on open source projects often solve real problems and make other people's life better, yet some of them consider themselves anti-capitalist or even socialist.

This great article debunks a lot, but also acknowledges some important underlying points:

"Pinker has no serious evidence for ..., even though his sources’ evidence for the decline in homicide rates in European countries over many centuries is solid."

And some points in the article are also highly questionable:

"Perhaps most important, the absolute numbers of people who die because of armed conflicts are a first-order measure of the true human cost of violence, and we should never permit the moral gravity of this loss and suffering to be relativized by the juggling of numbers until they all match the same global population in any given year."

This would mean that we can never compare the past with the present...

I have been depressed too for years. What I can tell you is that one day, something wonderful and completely unexpected can happen and change everything :-) But you should not count too much on it though. In fact, I would say you should do the best you can to stop worrying about yourself and care about things that could help others. It's after you have done that for some years that the wonderful things are most likely to happen!
