Very interesting concept, but I'd recommend people check out GRDB[1] if you're in search of a mature persistence layer for your iOS apps. It's a modern SQLite wrapper with a lot of conveniences for application development like value types, Codable mapping, Combine observables, etc.

I've deployed it in production on a few apps so far, and it has been a real joy to use.

I would love to see all “Share the Road” signs replaced with “Bicycles May Use Full Lane” [1] signs. This is the law in California but many motorists are unaware, or don’t care.

I would appreciate these disclosures a lot more if the author didn’t always include a flippant dismissal of security architecture improvements in macOS. Yes, it’s harder to write software with sandboxing and other modern security techniques, but that doesn’t mean we should go back to how things were.

I guess this will get lost in the noise, but a few years ago Apple relaxed its restrictions on IAP donations and allows developers to offer a "tip jar" where IAPs don't unlock any specific features. I've been shipping a free and open source app with a donate button on the App Store since mid-2017 [1].

The “One Plus” plan has unlimited international 256 kbps LTE and is juuuuust fast enough to get by. The low latency of LTE is helpful to make it feel a lot faster than a 2G connection of similar speed.

The issue is that the peak power consumption could exceed the maximum power that the battery could deliver, not that the batteries were running out of charge. By throttling power consumption you can prevent unexpected shutdowns at the expense of maximum performance. I run LineageOS on an old Moto G and think it's a great way for us technical people to keep our devices relevant beyond their intended lifetimes. For people less technically inclined I will always recommend Apple devices, however if Apple keeps rushing out buggy software releases this may change.

The 5S was released in Sept 2013 and still runs the latest version of iOS. If they were still selling it in 2016 it will likely be supported with software updates until 2019. For comparison the Galaxy S4 was released in April 2013 and received its last update to Android 5.0.1 in April 2015.

The iPhone 6 was released September 9, 2014, which is about 3.3 years ago.

Build near mass transit and in walkable neighborhoods and restrict the number of parking spaces. Make streets safer to walk and bike. Adding more housing units doesn't need to mean a linear increase in cars as well.

Something I've noticed that's lacking from most aggregators like Kayak and SkyScanner (my current fave), is the ability to increase the price of the ultra-budget carriers by adding their carry-on baggage fees and whatnot. I don't care about checked bag fees, but some of the carry-on fees are ridiculous ($60 per overhead item?). These budget carriers are cheating the system by looking like the cheapest option, when in reality one of the more expensive carriers is actually cheaper once you compare them apples-to-apples.

Shouldn't a TLDR about stock options include critical information like 83(b) election, etc?

Would this help projects like LineageOS (formerly Cyanogenmod) maintain ongoing support for older devices?
