Nowadays, it's obvious to me that it's my responsibility to make it easy for them to see that I am good. That's what practice is - it's you working on your ability to articulate your fit for the role

I second that. As an interviewer it's much easier to pass someone if they directly articulate how they meet the question rubrik. For coding interviews that can mean explicitly communicating a methodical approach and covering edge cases. For behavioral that can mean clearly communicating a situation and it's impact. This does take practice.

Is Netflix really that bad? They aggressively state they quickly fire people. But I've also seen reports that their turnover rate is low, and they don't have a PIP culture. It looks to me like people are reasonably happy there for the most part.

I'm at a FAANG adjacent company and we do hire older ICs. Though I wouldn't want to be interviewing right now. Senior level interviews can be demanding, and junior positions hard to find.

It's crappy answer to age discrimination, but people pivoting can leave less relevant experience off of resumes. I've done that.

It could make sense. I'm assuming they will be doing actual work during that time. A paid 12 month long apprenticeship would be good for both parties. It's enough time for Meta to decide if they want to hire an employee full time, and a year would give sourcers a decent amount of experience if they wanted to leave.

Trust and Safety is an extraordinarily difficult problem to handle at scale. Ideally guidelines should be public and applied consistently. That's a high standard.

Elon came in saying he was pro free speech, even saying ElonJet wouldn't be banned. But he fired moderation teams and replaced them by personally making individual decisions. Twitter can't get consistent application of public guidelines from that.

The scale of hiring at FAANG companies is on another level. Google's summer intern class is probably much larger than the number of FTEs at my current job. They need to contact tens or hundreds of thousands of prospective candidates. I'm not shocked some people have an easier time getting interviews from FAANG companies.

How are they getting promoted? I hate the idea of cheating. Interviewing is unpleasant on both sides, and I don't want to compete with cheaters. But getting promoted isn't easy. It's been common advice to get a promo at another company if you are having trouble at your current job. Sure promos can be political and involve luck, but hopefully they are backed up by real impact.
