It would really help if this advice was more legible to agents. Spent the last week in Claude Code building a reasonably complex app running entirely on CF Workers, Containers, KV, and D1. Pages were slow due to the multiple round trips to storage on each page since Claude Code used D1. Despite repeated prompting Claude Code had no suggestions for how to improve within the CF platform. I ended up having Claude Code switch to Postgres with an eye towards switching the compute layer to AWS in the near future, since I'm very familiar with how to get performance out of that platform. Claude Code overcame my lack of familiarity to get something running on CF, but it wasn't good enough to get a design that could perform.

When my child was in the 9-12 year range we did programming with Godot. He liked building games so it maintained interest. Previously he had been working Scratch and the Godot editor was a much easier on ramp to building more complicated games than trying to do them in Java or Python.

This seems most likely to be an error in the document: "median checking account balances at account creation are only around $3,000 ... At a 4% net interest margin, this account would only contribute about $120 in margin during its first year...." 4% of $3,000 is $12. I suspect both $350 and $120 are 10x too big. Alternatively the average checking account is 10x the median which seems unlikely.
Mostly was on BBS between the ages of 12 and 15, starting with a giant 300 baud modem on a card in our Apple ][2. Most of the systems were forums and 300 baud wasn't bad for reading text. Way too slow for warez, so mostly exchanged floppies for games.
When everyone got on the Internet a few years later my younger sister didn't think it was a big deal since she had seen me reading forums and trading email for years.

Reverse engineering the assembly code required to drive the Geometry Transformation Engine efficiently from the compiled output of the C libraries is to this day one of my favorite technical puzzles I've worked on in my career.
I remember sitting in a meeting with our technical contact at Sony's headquarters in San Mateo where he basically asked without asking if we were using the C libraries. From the way he asked the question it was clear that the correct answer was "No, not using the libraries" since otherwise our game wouldn't be performant. At the same time we both knew we couldn't say that explicitly since that would violate Sony's contracts.

You might want to check out MicroConf Connect. I'm a founder of a bootstrapped startup and find the Slack community pretty interesting. https://microconf.com/microconf-connect
I've started working with my third child who is 10 years old. The older two weren't interested, but my youngest is really interested. We first tried to use Scratch and some of the online learning sites, but they all drove me crazy because things would break or wouldn't work like the videos. We switched to Python using Pygame Zero which is going MUCH better. Definitely recommend Python: using whitespace for blocks is very understandable and easier than balancing {}. At 10 my child is able to exclusively drive the keyboard and make many of the changes he wants. We've been doing this for about 6 weeks spending 1-2 hours on Sat and Sun.
My older son is much more interested in mechanical engineering so I'm mentoring his robotics team for programming.

What was really cool back then was ISDN to your home.
I was doing work with SGI back then and had an Indy at home. It was a nice computer, but there wasn't that much software that really made a difference day-to-day. Sure the debugger could render 3D graphic representations of data in memory, but who cares?
ISDN was a huge upgrade over dial-up. Latency and packet loss was much much lower than dial up which made accessing the early web a totally different experience.
