Sounds like Netflix is going the Disney route in finding more ways to monetize its IP. The IP is the advantage.

Not the OP, but my advice is to tailor your advice / sharing of experiences to what your mentee(s) need. Always start by listening before sharing your experiences, and for each experience, distill the key learning so you can help your mentee see how they can apply it to their situation.

Based on the BBC article in the parent comment, the buyer wasn’t actually a buyer / reseller but just a middleman representing the collector. And he said that though he wasn’t privy to the price paid, it wasn’t $16K but was also not as much as $1M. He also said no meteorite is worth $1M.

Most QR systems (in merchant presented mode, anyway) require good internet connectivity, which may not be a given in developing markets. This isn't a problem for NFC.

It sounds like the tickets were cancelled the next day anyway, so it's not like they couldn't have re-sold or given away..

Where I come from our green lights blink five times before the light goes to yellow, then red. I've found that it's much more useful than having just a yellow light to estimate when I should accelerate at a light and when I should stop.

Another scenario where gaining an incremental dollar of revenue may be more valuable than saving an incremental dollar of cost: optics for fundraising. A startup with $500k revenue and $600k cost would probably find it easier to raise funds than a startup with $100k revenue and $200k cost.
