when you think there's an AI behind what you are enjoying, it destroys every sense of purpose, and the only goal is clicks and time listened (not trasncendence, recognition, share of emotions or histories), so the "enjoyer" becomes more like a user or consumer than an human enjoying art

that example is just worthless... most people are used to notepad and windows (by a huge margin) than ANY mac thing you can say. So, no, sorry, you are wrong, the sanest plug and play experience, still, is windows, who is pirated all across the globe and put on anything.

"most of the content the AI was trained on was already SEO optimized bullshit mass produced on company blogs."

totally agree in the last part, I work with copywriting and I spent most of my prompts trying to double-down on the pretentious discourse.

I work for a tech startup doing communication and mkt. I'm sick of engineers sucking Sam's dick and believing every demo they watch. Even after seeing what Altman's is capable of perform in the stage. I'm also sick of the scene trying to sell "AI" (whatever that means) next to everything. We even go out of our way to promise stupid impossible stuff when we talk about multimodal or generative... It doesn't matter, it needs to sell.

Just to give a sickening example, I was approached by the CEO to fix a very bad deepfake video that some "AI" Engineer made with tools available. They requested me to use After Effects and editing to make the lips sync....

On top of that, this industry is driving billions of investment into something that is probably the death sentence for a lot of workers, cultures, and society, and that is not fixing or helping in ANY other way to our current world problems.

charging docks are cool, but they're a little inconvenient for traveling and portable needs

off shore services wont go anywhere, even less if rates and inflation keeps raising in USA. Accenture, Globant and other big corpo in the tech industry are hoarders of semi-jr proffessionals. I'm from a third world country working as a contractor for tech companies, and both of the companies named are seen as the initial step of every developer, because they pay the lowest salaries in the market.

Sorry, I just read your comment. That teacher just said it like "very often", not that is like a rule that every comparison is a bad argument, but more often than not we tend to go the way of comparisons (think about whataboutism for example)

You get used to it. If you work your whole life, having vacations or time off work is seen as unproductive time, and that you lack something in your life. People who have been working outside for most of their life, will find retirement not so fun, empty of goals and without the discipline that work brung to their life. More or less, they're less capable of feeling fine with spare time. This is my dad after 4-5 years of retirement (sum it up that in the 3rd world we are living, retirment is aprox 150usd per month, and going vacations to another continent is maybe half or more of your life savings)

You have to be really educated and be aware of the potential risks of losing your attention via the phone. Most of the people just rely on it to not think about stuff or to not think about problems, and maybe for them it's not a choice.

I'm not too fond of Elon and have blocked him on Twitter because I don't like selfish personalities nor fanatism or personalism from the community, but he's saying normal and rightful stuff in these tweets. You can say a lot of things about him but not infer that with these tweets.

Sometimes these answers make me believe they are created for bot brigades and astroturfing.

Hey HackerNews, I'm Fernando, one of the people behind this. With a group of fellows from our company, we created this Chrome plugin to translate tables into comprehensive explanations using GPT3, readable by web scrapers and bots.

The plugin requires you to get your Private Key from OpenAI and then use it with the plugin to translate on-site any table you want.

It definetly has to do with screens and the virtuality of living. Is not just plain old nostalgia. I agree it's a paradox of choices and "individual liberty".

Obviously new generations won't notice, they probably won't complain yet or add nostalgia to their experiences, but there's a lot of thing that without effort there is no purpose in doing, and thus no joy in it. Remember when something cost you a lot of efforts? that was the real important thing, and when you achieved it or passed it, remember the joy you had? now with so many experiences, options and things within a hand's reach, theres no fun in doing anything, because it doesn't require your effort, and I think our brains weren't developed for an easy, overjoyed, overstimulated life.

Is this way of showing, very similar to an Apple keynote in tone, form, timing, presentation, etc, that is really commercial, and we are a little used to (that's the vibe it's giving). Selling their products doing this 'keynotes' talking about new exciting stuff and 'performance' increase based on my ass metrics, just to build hype and fomo, for a JS framework, it just feels odd.

It works, there wouldn't be so much advertising without the gains. Of course in this process lots of companies and business, amateurs in advertising, loose money, and of course big companies try new stuff everytime and they loose money too. I'm a marketer and I really feel the ad sector is like a disservice to humanity, trowing money to the script driven money factory when lots of people can't even eat every day.
